Depressing STG Realizations
Depressing STG Realizations
Depressing things you realize.
I don't have nearly good enough execution/finesse to ever get where I want with Battle Bakraid, regardless of how much practice I can put in. I want 50m in Normal Course, but I doubt I'll ever break 35, if even that.
There will never be a sequel to either Hishouzame or Same!Same!Same!.

We will never see a true Ketsui sequel, and if somehow we do, it will be a moe-ified shadow of it's former self.

I'm probably dead before the nesica version of crimzon clover gets released on PC/Consoles, if ever
Re: Depressing STG Realizations
I wouldn't be so pessimistic. It seems that Sony is heavily courting indie developers and allowing them to self-publish on their platform, which drastically lowers barriers of entry.Cagar wrote:I'm probably dead before the nesica version of crimzon clover gets released on PC/Consoles, if ever

* I'm never gonna be as good at shmups as I used to be before the family man life took all my gaming time away.
* Never gonna loop Ketsui, not sure I'm even gonna get the 1-ALL again.
* Never gonna enjoy playing in any tournament again unless I can choose the games

1) Being so obsessed with Hellsinker as to track down tonnor's twitter, tumbler, soundcloud, youtube accounts.
2) Never having more than 2-3 hours a week to actually play STG's
3) Knowing the only cave clear possible will either be mushi arrange or some novice mode.

Passion by Saint Matthew edition: it won't have 2 second loops and the consequent ball crushing requisites for unlocking then.Grumpius wrote:drunkninja24 wrote:We will never see a true Ketsui sequel, and if somehow we do, it will be a moe-ified shadow of it's former self.

The realisation that you lack the motivation to 1cc anything but the easy shmups. Or to seriously play for score in any game at all.
All the posts on his tumblr are loli porn though...
I've done all these, besides youtube. Didn't know he had one.nasty_wolverine wrote:1) Being so obsessed with Hellsinker as to track down tonnor's twitter, tumbler, soundcloud, youtube accounts.

I may never have a knowledgeable coversation about shmups in real life. Nobody else I know has any interest in them

These. I think the second one has a lot to do with my lack of motivation. The games I've been good at in the past (non-STG) have almost always been games my friends played/talked shit about which provided the incentive to grind their scores/times to dust. STGs? I've got no RL friends that come anything close to serious play (I have two friends that kinda fuck around once in a blue moon; any attempts I've made to get them to actually try harder fail miserably).PAPER/ARTILLERY wrote:I may never have a knowledgeable coversation about shmups in real life. There are no smartphone games. You can and should shun/ignore them as a gaming platform, and all games made for them. Announcements on company sites should be commented on, along the lines of 'will you be releasing a proper version?'

Re: Depressing STG Realizations
I've realized that as much as I like the genre, I don't have the attention span to be really good at anything. My typical gameplay cycle involves hopping between STGs every two days, or playing one every four or five days for a couple weeks.
I also seem to be unable to get my movements under control. I just kind of jet around the screen instead of moving deliberately and with purpose.
EDIT: And, I usually don't set goals, so I usually just play thing aimlessly and accomplish nothing of importance.

Maybe no STGT this year

Oh - also:
People who bitch about tournament games - whatever reason.
That competitive play sucks the fun out of the genre.

The fact that a proper PvP shmup doesn't exist.

Still dying in the 1st loop in DDP despite playing it for 7+ years...
On and off mind you, but 7 years you would think that it would be down to a perfect flawless art by now.

Re: Depressing STG Realizations
Good game design: Put up a scoring trick that many players can only achieve one every two dozen restarts
Repeat for the entire game
Repeat for the entire game

You're speaking to a man who is seriously going for a 2-all. When he says "dying" I think he means literally "any survival mistake whatsoever."PAPER/ARTILLERY wrote:DDP was my first 1cc.
