So just picked up one of those fancy matte black homebrew ps1s on the cheap, mostly because it looks cool and it's region free....But after testing it with all my PSX titles it refuses to play only 3 in my collection: Japanese copy of Raiden Project, Raiden DX and an NTSC-J Einhander. For these games only it makes a "click, click, click, click" noise before going to a "please insert playstation disc" screen. If I hold the console upside down it will play them, but if I turn it right side up it skips and stops.
So my questions are: since the cd drive is malfunctioning for only these three games could it be something to do with it being a Yaroze itself and not a Ps1?
If I took it apart and greased rails and gears would that stave off having to replace the drive?
Finally, if laser mech replacement is the only option, beside holding the console upside down when I want to play Seibu games, which model of PS1 laser mech would I be looking for? And any leads on where to find one?
