Get the party bunting out and blow on some cartridges in it's honour...

Happily, the little cousin to whom my parents gave my NES now lives next door. For certain, I shall shoot some ducks in its honor. God bless you, Shigeru Miyamoto & Co.

I think I'll play some SMB instead of the usual suspects! Been a while since I played anything FC/NES.

I don't have a Famicon/NES anymore. My cousin stole mine 15 years ago along with all my games and fled to Puerto Rico.

Am I allowed to play some N64/DS/GBA?

Ah, the grandfather of the modern videogame. I'll fire up something in its honour. Thanks Nintendo for holding your creativity together for three decades, no mean feat.

Doesn't make a whole lot of difference, he's just posting shit we don't understand. I see no change.

Come to think of it, NOA asked Atari if they could get some help in marketing/selling the NES stateside but Atari passed up on that tantalizing offer (when they were focused on trying to promote/sell their 7800 hardware/software lineup). You might remember the 8-bit console wars of the NES, SMS and the Atari 7800 ProSystem all going head-to-head in the late '80s.

That probably was the biggest nail in Atari's coffin. They should've scrapped the 7800 and worked with Nintendo instead, while porting the originals like Desert Falcon, Fatal Run, Dark Chambers, etc. to the Famicom. Namco would probably have loved this team-up, considering their partnership with Atari (having licensed a good number of their games for Atari systems).
Kinect? KIN NOT.

It's too bad Nintendo and Atari didn't sink together while somebody else developed a system...going to Atari would have been a real stupid move considering how Atari botched things (and it doesn't fit with Nintendo's rather hysterical attempts to distance themselves from the stigma of offering a video games console when they eventually did launch). Love the NES and its games, hate the company's policies then and now. But maybe their basic monopoly helped stabilize the market from the standpoint of consumers.

I'm just grateful for GB(C/A) and d-pad as we know it. Not so grateful for having to mash on the gamepad buttons.
Oh yes, Nintendo LCD games were the best.

It seems those HAL published ports of Atari and Williams arcade games may have stemmed from Nintendo's talks with Atari. Considering how they turned out (Defender II port with no inviso or hyperspace, Joust with no survival rounds), maybe it was better that Atari didn't end up distributing the NES. The odd thing is that the JP versions only have the Atari copyright on the title screen.
