Taito will be releasing a Soundtrack Box set of their Ray series of shooters on 10.26, entitled RAY'z PREMIUM BOX -BEYOND- for the low price of 9,800 yen. The CD will contain 4 discs, featuring songs found in the arcade versions of Ray Force, Ray Storm, and Ray Crisis including unused tracks. As a bonus, the box set will contain a DVD which will contain super play vids, interviews with composer Tamayo, and opening movies from the games.

Gaijin, that is very sexy news. And I thank you for it.

BUT

do the later games top Rayforce's soundtrack?

I think not.

I've waited for this... It was just a matter of time, after that Darius set...

Oh and Raystorm music > Rayforce music :P

Thanks for the info, can you check, by chance, which are the four CDs to be reprinted? I assume the three normal OSTs from the game and a compilation of the arrange albums...?

Ooooo :D I love all the music in the Ray Trilogy. I hope Play Asia puts up pre-orders for this.

IIRC a yen is roughly equivalent to a US cent...thus the price in dollars would probably be somewhere between 90 and 100.

That's about right... The conversion fluctuates and the dollar is running about 110 yen or so right now. So 9800 yen is just a shade under US$90.

Well $93.90 (the price at play-asia) does sound that bad to me. Basically it comes down to $20 per soundtrack and $13.90 for the DVD :). Although I would ofcourse have preferred to pay less, but atleast this saves me from hunting them down on Ebay :P

Randorama: Everything I know is in this post. I assume you're right though -- the three soundtracks, and one for arranged tracks, and maybe some tracks that were made, but never used.

Thanks GP, one thing: can you find out if this material is made up ENTIRELY of reprints? Some songs (that weren't put in the final revision of the games) are already present in the old OSTs. Thanks in advance for any infos :?

Agreed, Storm has the best music in the series.

This set looks nice, but the 4th CD (Rayforce PCB ver.) seems kind of pointless when they are already including the OST to Rayforce. Raystorm Neu Tanz Mix would have been a better idea.

It looks like this should be coming out this week. Anyone planning on getting it? I'd love to get a hold of this (especially for the superplay DVD) but that's one nasty price tag on the thing...

You need skillz, man!

Seriously, you get used to it. It's like driving a car. Your hands pretty much automatically twitch to adjust to misalignment of the wheels and uneven road surfaces.

Well, Crisis does anyway.
Ray Storm was the bomb when I saw it at my local arcade in '97.
Then I learned a arcade perfect port was coming for the PS1 yipee.

But Storm and Crisis are not TATE so they automatically suck anyway.
I personally think that Force is overrated, because it is the only TATE shmup to ever be released for Saturn in US & EUROPE.

Music is ace though, and that is really what this topic is about.

If the official site's track listing is complete, the new Raystorm disc is missing the extra four remix tracks that were included on the original pressing of the Raystorm OST. :?

Oh yeah, I might consider getting this, if I don't spend my money on everything else.

I'm comparing taito's official site and tracklisting (for the raystorm cd, #2 in the box set), and the neu tanz tracklisting on play-asia. I think they're identical.

Indeed, but, the original Raystorm OST - which has the genuine game soundtrack on it (the Neu Tanz CD you see there is a different disc containing purely remixes) - does have four extra alternative tracks of its own. I have the original Raystorm OST with we here right now at work. The extra tracks are:

20. Aquarium (Haishima Arrange)
21. Toxoplasma ((Haishima Arrange)
22. Coeur De Ceramique (Piano & Quartet Arrange)
23. Intolerance (Orchestra Arrange)

These are not mentioned on the official website for the box set disc 2.

(I'm of course assuming that the Ray Box set will feature the original game's OST, and not the Neu Tanz remix disc.)

Personally, I'd really love to have the DVD from the box set, but as I already own all the OSTs, I don't think I'll be shelling out $90 just to gain the DVD. ... Hmmm ... Or maybe eventually I will give in and go for it... :?

I'm confused. You're agreeing with me that the track listing in the box set is different than the OST, but you still think that it IS the OST...

What are the track names and order of the Raystorm OST? The Neu Tanz remix has the EXACT same track names and order as the disc in the box set. Play-Asia also says that three of the discs are 'remastered' (but that could also mean simply re-recorded versions of the originals).

Well, you certainly could be be correct! Maybe this disc in the new box set really is the remix disc, then, and not the original OST..?

The original OST has the same track names for the first 19 tracks, but I think a few of them are listed in a different order to the Neu Tanz remix disc. Here's a page that lists the tracks in English for the two different CDs:

http://www.chudahs-corner.com/soundtracks/zttl0002.html
http://www.chudahs-corner.com/soundtracks/zttl0005.html

I guess we'll just have to wait til someone gets this box set to find out if it's the 'real' game's OST minus the 4 extra tracks, or the remix disc..?

Punch me for necroposting, but i need to ask those who may own it - please describe contents of "Database" section on that DVD's with superplay.

I'm referring to this:
Ray'z DATABASE
RAYシリーズのCDブックレット再録の他、アーケード版ポスター画像やゲーム開発資料など、貴重なデータを100点以上収録!
Ray'z DATABASE
In addition to re-recording the RAY series's CD booklet, it contains more than 100 points of precious data such as arcade version poster images and game development materials!
