Mostly hard rock and metal. Been listening a lot of classics like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Rainbow (with Dio) and Sabbath lately. I like some videogame music too, older SNK, Castlevania and Sakuraba stuff mainly.

Perfume all day erryday. I like almost everything Nakata produces, but Perfume is the best.
Re: What kinda music do u guys like?
I can listen to just about anything as long as it doesn't have lyrics that annoy me (which excludes mostly rap, hip-hop, death metal and angst-riddled screamo) but my tastes are mostly centered around classic rock (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Rush etc.) I do throw in some more modern rock as well, as well as a bit of EDM and techno. Every once in a while when I want something lighter, some Big Band jazz is nice as well. In general, I tend to prefer instrumentals to songs with lyrics.

I like this kind of music. We had a harpist play it as our wedding ceremony's theme.
Which was yesterday.

It depresses me when people immerse themselves in video game culture so much that they only listen to video game music. There's so much interesting stuff out there, don't pigeonhole yourself!KAI wrote:Hosoe and VGM in general.

Re: What kinda music do u guys like?
No, don't misunderstand me. I have a few video game albums on my iPod, like the Tetrisphere OST. It's just, if that's ALL you listen to, you're missing out.KAI wrote:It depresses me when people look down on game music composers.
Don't take my word for it, I only got into music like 6 months ago, but I wish I had done so earlier rather than listening to "Best VGM" playlists for a couple years. There were so many bands I could have seen that I closed my mind to because I thought popular music was all derivative shit. I missed out, and I don't want other people to. And partially, I think that listening to a video game OST as an album just doesn't work. It's not cohesive, it doesn't flow, it's missing the context that it is normally put into.
If you like the video game electronic style of composition, check out the album Cro Magnox by Ceephax. It's the OST for the best 16-bit game that was never made.

Re: What kinda music do u guys like?
I lost touch with most modern music some years ago. From time to time I try to check out some dance music tunes for jogging. But it is not music I would listen otherwise.
My fav music genre would be definitely Death Industrial (Fav artists: Mz. 412, Melek-Tha, Archon Satani). One example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0ZxOOYYMQc
I prefer to listen to it in the bathtub in total darkness (I have no windows in my bathroom). I recommend checking out "Infernal Affairs" by Mz. 412 or "Acclaim Hell" by Melek-Tha for a nice introduction into the genre.
I also enjoy some HNW from time to time but I have to be in the mood for it. Here is a good example (Note, you better turn down the volume, especially when you are wearing headphones!): https://soundcloud.com/lord-of-the-dead ... hrough-the
Please note: I am not a satanist, emo or pony-lover (I'm waaaaay beyond that age). I use this music the same way other people use horror movies or going bungee jumping. Listening to DI is like going into hell and back. It creates a catharsis-like feeling in me. I hope it makes sense to some.
Oh, and when playing some Distant Worlds, I love to listen to "Carbon Based Lifeforms". Great, great ambient music.

VGM is interesting because it's generally different from a lot of music, even if the VGM is 'within' a genre. I'd almost go so far as to class most video game music in its own variants of each genre.
More to the topic, I like speed metal, southern rock, rap/hip-hop, jungle, house, gabber, whatever other subgenres of 'techno' you want to add, smooth jazz, video game music of most genres... pretty much everything ww.

Re: What kinda music do u guys like?
My top 3 albums of all time (I listen to a very wide range of music, but these three are my clear favourites):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7IiENI3jqc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_49lpULKdc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHcuqnKbbW8
First two are joint first, I can never quite pick which it is. Those have been my favourite two for so long I don't think they will ever change, probably the past 20 years.
Trick Of The Tail is Genesis without the Gabriel baggage (as he had become), but before they started their ill advised journey towards pop music. Some of the tracks are beautiful, all are well constructed and performed. You can put this on and just let this one take you on a journey.
Out Of The Blue - said it recently in the albums thread, but nobody has ever mixed orchestra and rock like ELO did in this record. Many groups have tried (most notably in recent memory would be Muse I suppose), nobody has even come a fraction close. Amazingly the whole album was written in 3 weeks, it doesn't matter how many times I listen to this, there are some guitar and string section layers which are pure genius. They sound made for eachother.
I loved Gish as soon as it came out, there's something about it that makes the whole thing feel effortless and complete, like they sat down and just wrote it all in one inspired day. I challenge you to listen to it without starting to drum on the nearest desk/workstop/legs around 7:50, and it comes straight after a drifting quiet section that mellows you out. Check out the bass around 16:20, there's a tendancy for rock bands to mix the lead guitars too high and the drums too low - the mixing on this album is perfect, the drums have real punch. I highly recommend a few shots of rum and a loud hifi for this.

Re: What kinda music do u guys like?
I guess I haven't ever listened to that full ELO album (ELO's hit songs do still get a lot of airplay on classic rock stations these days, I'd put Fire on High as my favorite of their songs) but I'd make the case for The Moody Blues' Days of Future Passed as my favorite symphonic rock album. They don't really try to mix the two directly (mostly opting to let the rock and orchestra take their turns) but they complement each other quite well.
