Evo 2013 - anyone else going?

Post by drunkninja24 »

I know there's a few other fighting game heads around these parts, just curious if anyone else here is planning on making the trip for Evo this year. I'll be heading up, playing in the AE and the Skullgirls side tourney. Should be good times

I'd kill to go to Evo but now that I'm in Japan it's way too expensive. Good luck!

Diane... it's 7:30 a.m. over at the shmup forums, the locals seem to be nice and friendly, i've stopped over at the off topic forum and they have nice conversation and a damn good coffee, and the trading station is worth a stop.

I would adore being able to go, but I'm poor and all the way in Florida. Would be super-cool though.

I'll be watching it, just like every year .. Marvel is pretty much already decided (Chris G lol), SSF4/Injustice is where the real hype is gonna be ..

I'm also in Florida. Considering it, but that's a long way to go and a lot of money to spend to get eliminated in two goes.

One of these years I might actually consider going since Vegas isn't too hard to get to from here, but strictly as a spectator, since I've got basically no skills when it comes to fighters.

Has it been confirmed that the announcement was street fighter related? I thought it was just a big capcom announcement.

Now that it no longer costs money to get an update on XBL, I could see a new balance patch coming.

Five years is quite enough, bring on SF5 with a whole new direction. They can start with a less restrictive combo system that still keeps out infinites like SF3's.

Yeah, I think the only things that will really excite people are these three things:

-New characters (this late in the game?)
-More balance changes
-Street Fighter V

Anything else will probably be wicked lame. I admit that I might not be able to think of something really exciting, though.

pretty sure we will get the capcom characters from sfxt added in to sf4. plus some balance changes. they are still working on darkstalkers, so i think it's still too early for street fighter 5.

what? i thought capcom said that the digital collection didn't sell enough to motivate them to greenlight a new vampire game.

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

After sneaking in ahead of Skullgirls, apparently Nintendo won't allow Smash Bros. Melee to be streamed.

Just checked wikipedia and i guess nobody knows for sure. The last thing i remembered about the game was the new york comic con trailer. Its pretty stupid that capcom would base the fans interest on how many copies resurrection sold. I mean, ds3 is 16 years old at this point. I didnt buy it because theres too many new fighting games as it is to go back and relearn an ancient game. Im sure other people felt the same way.

And on a completely different note, lol at nintendo. You're going to eat a lot of shit for this move. The fact that the smash community raised almost $100,000 for charity to get their game featured is going to generate even more negative headlines. Hopefully nintendo change their mind real fast or they are in trouble.

So indeed they have reversed their streaming stance, but according to one of the tourney's founders Nintendo originally wanted to put the kibosh on Smash Bros. being present at all, and the organizers had to talk them down from there to the "no streaming" level before the most recent development occurred.

Watching Melee right now. Didn't know this game offered more than casual play (no offense to anyone, I'm learning here...)

I'm watching Melee until the SSFIV pools start up. Admittedly I never spent much time with Melee or Brawl, but played the original N64 game quite extensively when it was released with my friends.

At my university, practically all they play is Melee. Until I started there, I had the same idea of the game. Melee is a pretty technical game.
Shame about the game's balance though.

I missed the last 7 hours or so, but day 1 of SSF4 has been pretty nuts. The game is so fiercely competitive that even godly players have trouble making top 32. :o

Yeah, it's too bad they had to fight each other in losers bracket. As Seth was saying, it was like watching two brothers battle to the death - nobody wins. :(

Top 8 is looking good, at least. Daigo is going up against Infiltration right off the bat, so one of them is about to get sent home. And I guess the 'fighting game gods' live up to their title, since 4/5 of them made it into top 8 (I don't think Nuki plays any more)...!
