Does anyone else own an Air Attack PCB?
Does anyone else own an Air Attack PCB?
Got a question about Comads Air Attack, seeing a few things which aren't the same as mame, including one that looks like a possible hardware bug - could do with finding another owner to compare notes with!

I guess nobody's going to chime in with an account which is a shame. The game rather interests me actually. What are you seeing?
Re: Does anyone else own an Air Attack PCB?
In MAME, the bombs are right at the top above the score, on the PCB they're at the bottom. This is probably an emulation bug - while the screenshots on the flyer are clearly mock-ups, they show bombs being at the bottom, where people expect them. The second issue is that in attract with the large 'INSERT COIN' graphical text over the top, to the right of that I'm seeing fragments of that font style appearing in a semi random fashion. They change position and colour sometimes. This could be a PCB fault (maybe an unreliable ROM even), or again - could be normal just because a lot of these low run budget PCBs weren't perfect out of the door to begin with. There are no weird artifacts in game, or on score entry which uses the same font.

Re: Does anyone else own an Air Attack PCB?
Wish I had a PCB to check it with, but I wonder if the PCB exhibits similar behavior to MAME in other areas:
- Foot soldiers = 1000 points, ground tanks = 0 points
- Strange behavior with the clouds in Stage 2, some possibly intentional - the first big foreground cloud will obscure the yellow enemies coming in from the sides of the screen, but other foreground clouds don't seem to do this. Another large cloud disappears roughly when it touches the bottom of the screen.
- Hiccups in the sound system (notable at the beginning of stage 2) playing different bits of the current music loop for a fraction of a second and then starting in with the rest of the melody.

That second bit is almost certainly an emulation issue. Air Attack's board (and game code) is based on Thunder Dragon, and the emulation is using similar code to the emulation for Thunder Dragon as well. NMK stuff is still pretty poorly emulated.

Interesting confirmation. I thought it was NMK-based judging from the colored pattern of Us at boot, good to know.
