Cant Remember Game Name
Cant Remember Game Name
Hello fellow Shumps fans!
I have been trying to remember the name of an arcade game with no success, hope someone here can help.
It was a side scrolling shooter where you controlled a ship, and it was in color. Whenever you put in a quarter it said "Thank You". This would have been in the arcades in the mid 80's. Not much to go on, but was a looong time ago and I was very young.

This is quite literally the only non-general non-vague portion of your description. Unless someone can think of a shmup that does this, we'll need more gameplay/graphical related info go on. What kind of ship, what kind of weapons, what kind of environments/levels/bosses? Etc.ddl wrote:Whenever you put in a quarter it said "Thank You".
Re: Cant Remember Game Name
I admit my recollection is vauge- otherwise I could probably remember the name..... It was similar to defender, as you were in a spaceship moving left to right. I THINK you had the ability to land and get shields or fuel or some type of powerups as you were flying.

Defender isn't a fixed velocity autoscroller, you can freely move right or left over the entire map. Was the game similar to Defender like that (like Fantasy Zone which also lets you scroll the screen left or right) or was it a horizontal scroller where your ship always faced right?ddl wrote:It was similar to defender, as you were in a spaceship moving left to right.
Dragon Breed also allows you to land, but isn't a spaceship. What about Scramble? It looks similar to Defender, although it plays quite differently, it has a Fuel bar, but no "Thank You" when inserting coins. There's also Super Cobra, but that's a heli and not a ship. Carrier Airwing has a fuel bar, but it's planes and not spaceships. So does Sauro, but it's a sub.
It might also be listed under this database: http://www.mamedb.com/category/Shooter/ ... Horizontal
Re: Cant Remember Game Name
It was a one way scroller from what I remember. I think you could land on some sort of pad to refuel or recharge your ship. I remember the graphics were about the quality of scramble, nothing above that level.

1981's Vanguard by SNK? The game had voice, but don't recall specifically if it said "thank you."
Re: Cant Remember Game Name
Took a look at Vangard, wasn't it. I *Think* you had to land on a platform to recharge...fuel...or shields and was a gradual recharge, memory is very vauge, I am looking through Various Mame screenshots for something that rings a bell as well.
Re: Cant Remember Game Name
Was it Victory? It's not forced scrolling, but it has similarities to Defender and says "Thank You" when a coin is inserted. The owner made this ROM legally available for free, so I linked to it. Here is a video.

Thank you!!
Yes, it was Victory
awesome, appreciate the help.

For that time period, specifying it's in color is actually quite helpful. That one was right on the edge (at least, of being colorful). Looks really neat, especially for the time!

Thunder Force AC also says ''Thank you!'' when you insert coins. But it looks like you already found your game
