Sega Master System region lockout?

Post by Dylan1CC »

I have decided to buy the SMS rev of Bubble Bobble (I have been playing it in emu and it is a very good port from what I can see) but before I do, were any of the Euro or Brazillian carts region locked? Will this game play on my U.S. system? And if it is locked, is there a solution? Thanks in advance to anyone who answers this.

As far as I know, no Master System carts have region lockouts. Some have region detection, but that just makes them display different title screens for different regions (Power Strike/Aleste for example). Apart from very few PAL carts that won't play on US systems (which is probably because of the video output and not because of region lockout), all Master System carts will play happily on any system, regardless of region. And the only cart that won't play at all seems to be Back to the Future III, which no one in his right minds would want to play anyway.

I think somewhere on classicgaming.com, there's a list of the carts that don't work. You might want to have a look at it, just to be sure.

EDIT: There, found it. Here is another piece of information.
