Does such a gamepad exist?

Post by Wooph »

I was wondering if there is a gamepad where the second pair of shoulder buttons is placed low enough that one could comfortably rest their middle fingers on them for prolonged periods of time.

It's always been something of a curiosity, since there have been occasions where I found it useful to have both pairs of shoulder buttons covered at the same time.

There is the Avenger thingy

Not a gamepad in itself, it wraps around a standard 360 or DS3 controller.

Not quite what you mean but the Razer Sabertooth has rockers on the underside which alllows access to two programmable (shoulder if required) buttons on the underside very comfortably without really moving your fingers: http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-control ... sabertooth

The Sabertooth is much closer to what I was looking for, but I guess there aren't really any controllers of the kind I'm thinking of. It's rather expensive though.

Do you have any experience with it Wonderbanana?

Yeah I've had one. Nice pad actually, fully programmable too.

The best thing about it are the rockers underneath though. Great for FPS games as it allows you to sprint/jump/crouch/shoot/aim without moving your fingers across to other buttons so if FPS is your bag its a great pad. Bear in mind its wired though.

There are other (custom) pads on the Bay which are modded MS originals which have a similar set up though I forget what their called and they are even more expensve.

How long have you had one for? From experience, third party controllers tend to not last as long as the official controllers. I have an Xbox 360 controller from 2006 that still works perfectly fine. I'd hate to spend $80 on the Sabertooth, only to have it malfunction in months.

I sold it! Needed cash for a pcb and I wasn't gaming much on the 360 at the time

I can't comment on the quality of the Sabertooth but I know the previous iteration (Onza) wasn't known for its build quality. It was something Razer were supposed to address in the Sabertooth build. No idea if they did though.

I guess I'll check it out if the price drops at some point. Thanks for your impressions.

I've got a Call of Duty Black Ops 360 controller with the same back-button features. I'm pretty sure it was only $30 or so at bestbuy. One of those 'gamepads' with an even shitter dpad than the regular official controllers. (I'd assumed that the cross design meant that it was better. O well.) I'm sure they don't stock them anymore, but possibly see if there's a Black Ops 2 one or something.
