shmups hitting mainstream french video games site 100k views

Post by Aguraki »

I don't really know all sites but this one is the one I read the most in france and is pretty big.
they featured battle garegga 2 weeks ago and now on front page they have a superplay of mushihimesama live and commented(player: dam dam) .
not sure if it belongs in true superplay as I never played the game though.

http://www.jeuxvideo.com/chroniques-vid ... 112773.htm

it's nice to see shoot em up making it through this site.

Hey, any chance that the alltynex kickstarter gets some Exposure there? It's only 11 days to go, and as it is as of now, it won't reach the physical-edition stretchgoals at all. It even loses some money, as some folks withdraw their 45 $ pledge because it won't reach the stretchgoals. Having around 500 backers à 45$ should be enough to get a full fledged philysical release of this great shoot em up trilogy.

I have no idea Im in no way related to this site I just saw the video and thought it was cool to link it here.
the french forum shmups.com seems to be in contact with that video games site (they even did multiple shoutout in the vid) so your best bet here would be to ask on that forum if they can pass the word (I doubt they can or will but its the best idea).
I think prometheus post there maybe ask him.

think its worth updating the title :D

The views might have entirely to do with the cross-dressing tranny though.

Thanks, I allready passed the news to NyuMedia and they said they emailed the page. I'll try shooting Prom a PM, but I guess he should know about this Kickstarter, as he frequents shmupsforum quite often, I think.

DamDam is a really serious game player and devotes much time on the internet for this passion.
Check her videos on youtube and blog, covers of the Stunfest festival and such.
Afraid of the fact that she might be/have-been a guy ? Mushihime exposure is what counts here, eh ?

Isn't it just an abbreviation of transvestite? Didn't realise it had become a slur now, crazy world.

I can think of other slurs that are shortened versions of semi-legitimate words. Point is, it's a slur even if someone didn't mean to use it in a hurtful way.

On topic, this is pretty cool and I hope this sort of genre exposure continues. Things like these videos, Stunfest's stream, STG Weekly, etc are all doing a pretty good job of showing people that these games are still out there and still fun.

A while back I discovered a french superplay youtube channel (BeyondGaming Neo) had posted my Bakraid replay from traps last tournament and given it a full commentary  I definitely wouldn't consider my run a superplay by any means but attention from strangers is good for my ego regardless. Wish I could understand what they were saying.

By the way, this site jeuxvideo.com hosting the mushi footage has both great audience in France, but is also famed to have young casual-COD-is-the-best-because-it-has-nice-graphics audience.
Not sure is this is the place where mushi will get the most attention. I wonder on which french site it would have had some anyway

Better than that 4 million view count video of Futari Ultra, which has only done damage to shmups reputation as being impossibly difficult while having a fat woman yell and laugh at you the entire time. (Yes, I'm talking about the HARDEST BOSS EVER! video)

The comments in that page seem to be centered mostly on DamDam's sexuality. I don't think it will give much positive exposure to the genre really.

Transvestite != transsexual. a transvestite is an outdated term for someone who crossdresses. A transsexual is someone who is mentally a different gender (and yes there is scientific evidence to support that these people are really "born in the wrong body" and not just really gay dudes looking for attention or w/e)

Tranny is considered an offensive term because it's reducing someone to a single aspect of themselves that they do not want to be reminded of. If you call a woman a woman she might get a few creepy comments. If you call her a "tranny" people will call her a trap, ask how big her dick is, all sorts of things that reinforce that people think she's actually a guy. Basically it's calling attention to the fact that someone is something they are trying very very hard not to be recognized as.

I don't buy into this theory that terms are only offensive if you get offended. These groups of people have, for millenia, been treated as nonexistent. All they want is for you to maybe not use one word so much. Is that too much to ask from a tiny, powerless minority group?

I don't like how asking someone to avoid an offensive term that demeans a group of people is "too politically correct". Agreeing to do and not do certain things is just part of the basic social contract you agree to by participating in modern society. If you say "I shouldn't have to abide by the standards society dictates, I'm free to say whatever I want" that's just childish. You're still asking for people to treat you kindly, but you feel unwilling to put in the effort to not treat other human beings like shit.

I think you're being a little too offended by this. I'm not accusing anyone of hate speech but merely informing them that their language was sorta unnecessary. Who fucking cares what damdam has in her pants? Do we need to mention she was born as a guy when we bring her up? Do we need to take pains to say that she's "actually a man"?

What I'm offended by is your wasting of everybody here's time shitpost ranting paragraphs about someone saying "tranny". You need to get some real life problems then maybe you will have enough perspective to understand. A bleeding heart for transsexuals on a shooting game message board - I've really seen it all now.

It's perhaps a waste of my time talking about this on an internet message board, but hey, advising people to not casually use offensive language in the future? Time well spent. I generally don't much care about this, I was just particularly annoyed by this case because it wasn't relevant at all to the video. Like, why did EmperorIng feel it was worth mentioning? Just weird.

Yup, at least it doesn't show larsa at all. Just dragon emperium. So it won't scare of casuals as much as it could have..

It was absolutely relevant. It looks like a girl sitting there and then she starts talking and it's the voice of a man. It was straight up weird. I'm fairly sure EmperorIng knows not to mention any words like that (even if you spell it out to transvestite) around people who might be one / might be offended by it in a real life situation, like how you don't ask a fat girl if she's pregnant. I wouldn't think twice about writing it on a message board though.

Isn't the French shmup scene along with arcades in general second only to Japan in it's size? From what I've seen on You Tube there's defiantly alot more quality content in French than English.

If only more those vids had English subs I would be able to understand it (sigh)

The english one is probably bigger, but it is significantly more spread out.

There's a lot of shmup specific jargon, so they're not that hard to understand. It's actually a great way to learn a bit of the language.

If you're interested, DamDam and co have created the Team Superplay Live, which travels around French conventions to do live superplays, speedruns, etc.

They have a Youtube channel with some of their performances:
http://www.youtube.com/user/TeamSuperPlayLive

By the way, they've just added Kamui's and NAK's live superplays at Stunfest 2013 on Garegga and Futari BL (God Mode)

DamDam has also registered on this forum and posted a score for the Mushi PS2 arrange mode in the High Score section. And DamDam has his/her own youtube channel where he/she posts live speed runs and shmup runs: http://www.youtube.com/user/Touindin

Back on topic, that's awesome that shmups are being mentioned on a larger gaming site like that (it seems like it's a larger site anyway :P )!
