Seriously now, I'm getting sick of them
Really now, things like this make me grind my teeth.
Are you really going to play all of them? I have something like, 4 "collectable" games. Games are meant to be played, not stored on a shelf.
I do enjoy seeing people show off their rare collection of whatever it maybe, but owning every single dreamcast game - specifically japanese - is pointless. What are you going to do with a text RPG in japanese that isn't sealed? Have it sit there just so you can say that it's yours?

yeah, i find i pointless too. I used to have over 100 japanese megadrive games & loads of other random stuff, then i thought one day whats the point, i dont play/use ANY of them. I then swiftly got rid of 99% of it all. And I dont miss any of it. It just goes to show i didnt need any of it, twas just pure clutter.

Someone buying a certain number of items and doing what they want with their money makes you grind your teeth?
Different strokes etc, I don't see the point in judging other peoples endevours as pointless just because they don't match my ideals.
If people want to use their money and collect something good luck to them.

Sure, if they sit their money on a shelf for the rest of their life.Kron wrote:Someone buying a certain number of items and doing what they want with their money makes you grind your teeth?

Get over it. Some people prefer to collect rather than play. And?

I am most certainly a compulsive buyer of all video game stuff I even remotely like. I have a large pile of games I really want to have, but am almost certain to never play in my life.

Congratulations, you make it sound as if I'm complaining about pointless collectors and their ways of "collecting" instead of playing. However, I was mainly pointing out the fact that it's a pile of money sitting there.Ord wrote:Get over it. Some people prefer to collect rather than play. And?
This is not the first "And?" I've seen from you. I would like less "And?"'s in the future, and more actual posts that aren't half a sentence wrong.. er, long*
Post something worth while then. How people choose to spend their money is really their business. If they choose to spend thousands of dollars for something that ends up collecting dust on their shelf, then so be it. Why the fuck make a bitching thread about it? Do you make threads denouncing antiquarian book dealers because they buy books they never read? How about stamp collectors? If it gives them pleasure then fair enough. There aren't any stringent rules about buying games and HAVING to play them. They can do what ever the hell they want.
Like I said, get over it. If you can't then please don't view other peoples extravagant game collections, and then complain about it. It's just not cool.

Same here. I had a TG 16, an NES with 50+ games, a Nomad, a Neo Geo Pocket Color, a Gameboy, a Sega Genesis, CD, 32x, Master system, rotting in my closet for years. I cleaned house and held on to the stuff I play (JP PS2, JP Saturn, Dreamcast, Xbox.. though I still have my gamecube for some reason...)Ex_Mosquito wrote:yeah, i find i pointless too. Feedback will set you free.

Nice collection. Don't know why he'd bother selling off his other stuff to focus on just Japanese games though
There's no way I'm selling off anything to focus on just one region / collection.
Who knows, maybe after I finish my complete US N64 set I'll want to get a complete US GBC set or a complete US SNES Nintendo Power Cover set (every US SNES game that was featured on the cover of Nintendo Power).
And if you think that's bad, you'd probably want to kick my teeth in over my movie collection. Ever rebuy a movie because it got rereleased with a better video transfer (Resivor Dogs) or because it had some new featurettes added (Starship Troopers)?

Well, money in a mattress or a bank can be spent on somethin useful(or at least something you're going to play). Plus it accumulates interest in banks.icycalm wrote:Well, he said that it's money sitting on a shelf.
What's the difference to money sitting in a bank? Or stuffed in a mattress?
Elixir isn't condemning game collecting specifically here. The point is that it's pointless to some people to spend money on something just to have it, whether they use the thing or not.
And yes, I know that's just my opinion.
Games are almost like money. You can sell a couple of them and buy other stuff. Plus, sometimes games go up in value and, if you are savvy enough, you can get a higher return on your investment than the bank's interest rate.Dewclaw wrote:Well, money in a mattress or a bank can be spent on somethin useful(or at least something you're going to play). There's no argument here really -- I'm just sayin'

Is money on a shelf anything like money in a desk drawer? Because I have some money in my desk drawer. And a couple of Japanese RPGs (one for Dreamcast and it's sealed). I had absolutely no idea that people in New Zealand who have the internet might be grinding their teeth over stuff like this. I guess we can all be thankful for the information super highway. Looking down on others wouldn't be the same without it.

I started playing console games in 94 with the 3DO and up to a point in 97ish I imported without any real clue of the hidden gem thing.
When the internet boom hit and eBay, I realized people knew alot more about games than I did so I started buying up tons of games most of which I never played. It was the hysteria surrounding the title or the uncommon factor of it which made me buy it because I didn't want to miss out on a sought after game.
Right now I am selling a heap of stuff because in a sense I have been hoarding because I certainly haven't played them. With this in mind my position of getting older and less into gaming, makes it seem like a whole lot of waste of time to me.
20 games is more than enough for any collection. Anything beyond that is more about the scene, than it is about gaming.

Jesus christ, that's like having money hanging on your fucking wall. It's cheaper to decorate your walls with wallpaper, assholes! FUCK!sethsez wrote:Does coin collecting piss you off as well?
And what about those people that collect action figures and do all sorts of stupid shit like put them on shelves or on top of their monitor? Fuckers, you're not 6 anymore, quit with the Star Wars shit already!
And beanie babies? Look assholes, unless you plan on cuddling with all of them every night, you'd better start selling a few off. And cut off the fucking tags already! BTW, you're 35... why the fuck are you collecting stuffed animals?

People collect because it gives them something to do that isn't physical.
I mean you could play Tennis, Soccer, football, golf or something like that.
I knew a guy once that collected smelly erasers.
The other reason people collect is because it makes them feel like they have alot of stuff. Which in the long run usually slows them down or becomes a hindrance. Stamps and coins are okay, but what about if you collect teddy bears and you have 300+ of them, you need a freakin 18 wheeler just to move them around.

I'm 35...and I don't collect stuffed animals. I gave that up at around the age of 10 or so.
I collect video games, but seriously, most are played, or at least have been played several times over. Which is why I sold off almost ALL of my RPG's, due to lack of interest.
Hey Roushy...did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today or something?
I'm feeling a "thread lock" coming on real soon...
