Does Ikaruga have Rank ?

Just a quick question: Does Ikaruga have Rank ?

I never noticed any and I kinda think it has no Rank at all. (which is pretty rare for shmup)

Are there any other good / famous shmups without any rank system?

Well the Gradius games, even console exclusives like Gradius V have rank.

The only place where you have some sort of rank in Ikaruga are some of the bosses. If you die during a boss battle (Stage 3, 5 and TLB) the attack patterns get notably easier.

That's interesting. So there is "some" kind of Rank system implemented.

I wouldn't call it rank system, it's more like single occurences where dying can lower the difficulty a bit.
