ST-V cart failed ROM test.. Is it completely toast?

Post by Austin »

Well, I loaded up my Soukyugurentai ST-V cart a few nights ago and it didn't seem to want to work. All I get is a blank screen after the ST-V generic info/warning screens. I went ahead and ran a memory test on the cart, but it comes back as each ROM being bad. I tried doing some online searches for a similar problem (and potential solution), but all I could find was in regards to the main ST-V motherboards being bad or going bad pretty easily, which I know isn't my problem right now. Both of my other carts, Baku Baku and Radiant Silvergun, work fine.

I suppose my question is, am I completely out of luck, or is there a slim chance of reviving this cart through other means? (My guess is: no :( ).

Keep in mind I have not tried cleaning the contacts yet, but taking a peak at them in a well-lit room, they look fine. The cart *has* been in storage though for the last decade, alongside my Radiant Silvergun cart (and the same ST-V board I am using now). So needless to say, it's been a while since it was last used.

Alcohol and cotton buds, try that first.

Guess what? That actually worked! I honestly didn't think it would make much of a difference (very little dirt actually came off), but hey, I'm not complaining. It goes to show how finicky this system can be!
