List of Arcade Exclusives

Post by MinuteFong »

This lists arcade shmups that have not been ported to home consoles or handhelds, nor as official MS-DOS/PC releases (MAME emulations are not included).

Ports to 1980s home computers *only* are listed separately at the bottom.

Initial list compiled based on the hard work of fans at shmups.com, wikipedia, youtube, KLOV and hardcoregaming101.net - cheers!

Where a game is followed by one or more asterisks, please refer to footnotes.

***** Viper Phase 1 New Version is not a US exclusive. The US releases of both are different from the Japan releases, current known difference is looping. Other releases might be different too. The Raiden Fighters games also have similar differences, and it is known that the Asian releases are based on but slightly different from the US releases.

=======================================
Controversies:
=======================================

The games below may or may not be exclusives, you decide :) : -
- Darius: see http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/darius/darius.htm for differences between the arcade Darius and the various ports.
- Gstream 2020: the original is unported, but there is a 360 port in the form of the 'improved' DeltaZeal (in Shooting Love 10th Anniversary)
- Some Visco games have apparently received PC ports in Korea.
- Battle Bakraid unlimited version is a bug-fix/unlock version
- Ibara Kuro is a remake of the PS2 arrange version
- The USA twin arcade version of Fire Shark, which has no checkpoints in 1P, is exclusive. Mega Drive and even Genesis versions are both based on Same!Same!Same! (JP version).

Thanks, can't believe I missed Progear  - it's one of those with the early mobile phone only ports. Also added Black Label, I originally thought it was the same as PS2 Arrange but it's not...

Some Psikyo games: Strikers 1999, Pilot Kids, Zero Gunner.

Grid Seeker, Ryu Jin and Asuka & Asuka (and maybe some other Taito game I'm missing) have been included in the Taito Legends/Memories compilations for PS2.

Great, thanks. Added: Strikers 1999/1945 III, Pilot Kids, Zero Gunner. Removed: Asuka & Asuka, Fighting Hawk, Grid Seeker, Halley's Comet, Megablast as they appear on Taito Memories/Legends. But: I can't see Ryu Jin on any Taito Memories/Legends listings, can you confirm which one?

I've had more screen names over the years because I post so infrequently that I forget logins, passwords and creation accounts. Guess I'll start over again.

Anyway, Capcom"s Eco Fighters was released on Capcom Classics Collection Volume 2 for PS2 and Xbox and on Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded for PSP.

That one's coming to the 360 soon, though!
Game Paradise: Master of Shooting!
This one was ported to the Saturn.

Also, not sure if it counts, but some of the Irem stuff was bundled and released on PC within the past few years.

Bermuda Triangle / World Wars - hell, most of SNK's early titles, like Chopper 1, Ozma Wars I would suspect (not Sasuke vs. Commander, that got a hidden port), Sky Soldiers.
T.N.K. III and S.A.R. - Search and Rescue seem close to OutZone...not substitutes for it, though TNK 3 is really nice.

A couple UPL oldies: Nova 2001 and Ark Area. Definitely shootin' games although they appear like arena shooters (but you can fly around and scroll the map freely).

[I know that Ozma Wars and Sasuke vs. Commander are on PSN, need to poke around and see what else is on there SNK-wise.]

Rafflesia, unless there's some SG-1000 or Mark III port I'm unaware of.

The Semicom shmups, Gaia: The Last Chance of Earth, Wyvern Wings, and Diet Family.
Baryon was a remake of a DOS game so I dunno if that nullifies it.

Explosive Breaker
DoDonPachi II: Bee Storm
Mad Shark

I'd guess
Sky Smasher
and early Seibu Air Raid / Cross Shooter (still not emulated because they put all the gfx in custom modules instead of roms)
Jaleco's Bombs Away (not properly emulated, fails ROM check and enemy bullets are broken..)

On the topic of weirdo psikyo ripoffs, there's 1945k III. Arcade only AFAIK.

Sasuke vs. Commander has had a port since it was hidden in Guevara on Famicom.

Not sure I'm comfortable with regarding the SFC version of Area 88 as a "port" or even a "conversion". Same goes with 1943 and some old games like that, of course.

Did the original Macross get a port? If not, it should be here.

Polystars should be under T, for Tobe! Polystars. So sorry.

Not sure it's "Viper Phase 1 USA" so much as it's the "New Version" that was released in quite a few countries. Unless there's something I'm missing?

Comparing Wyvern Wings to 1945k III makes me feel funny.

Despite having the same name, those aren't even close to being the same game. The horizontal scrolling Famicom Macross game by Namco predates the vertical scrolling arcade Macross game by Banpresto by a number of years. It's also unrelated to the Super Famicom, PCE CD, or PSX/Saturn Macross games.

It's not based on any arcade game afaik.

Also coincidently the first shmup I ever played.

Last Duel and Tokio have both been featured on compilations before. Capcom Classics Collection vol. 2 and Taito Memories II vol. 1 respectively. I believe P47-Aces also had a PCE port.
