How many Pc ports of STGs Exist?

Post by jigenbakuda »

I just recently bought the korean version of the first two shikigami no shiro games because pc games are mostly region free, so I now see this as a method for importing games. The question is, what games received an actual PC port? Steam, or any other game download service is fine too, as long as its a STG thats not doujin (I know how to get my hands on them). Is there a japanese version of steam? Will they even let me download with my ip address? I tried signing up for some of the games I see advertised on nico douga to no avil :(

Can you guys help me out so I can start collecting more games?

Raiden III and Shikigami no Shiro III also have fairly recent PC ports (retail disc).

Taito's RayForce, RayStorm and RayCrisis received PC ports though getting a hold of them might be difficult. (and require DosBox or something)
Sega has Mega Drive Classics collections on Steam, one shmup you can find there is Bio-Hazard Battle: http://store.steampowered.com/app/34316/

Just bought darius gaiden and rayforce as they are two of my favorite games, biohazard battle (another fav) is 3 bucks! Man, this way cheaper than buying consoles and finding the games. But both games I bought were taito, do they do more pc ports than other companies (not that I might, taito is so boss).

Please keep the titles coming gentlemen.

All 3 Shikigami No Shiro games received PC ports. G Darius also has a PC port (snagged it years ago for cheap... but could never get the CD audio to play with the game... most likely my shitty sound-card that I had at the time).

In addition to Raiden III, there are PC ports of the first two Raiden games, though you'd be better off emulating the PS1 compilation of them instead.

The first Gradius Deluxe Pack was released for PC too.

And there's supposedly a PC port of Illvelo, but I haven't been able to find more information.

If I'm not mistaken, this version of Rayforce is stuck in the Saturn port's cropped-down yoko mode, so it's not going to play like the arcade version (you won't be able to see, much less lock on to enemies outside of the viewable area).

Radirgy Noah is the MileStone shooter that got a PC port, supposedly. According to various sources it's the last disc in the MileStone Sound Collection.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Noah, not Illvelo! Sorry, I mixed-up the two Milestone games that aren't on the US Wii collection.

Hacked Taito Type X ROMs are playable on PC. Perhaps you can even import those games and run on your machine.

I've seen Korean copies of Gigawing 1 on ebay. I think it is just roms and an emulator packaged together, but the boxes might also have a capcom logo on them. Dunno how official they might be.

G-Darius got a PC port based on the PSX version. I have that one.

Now, wish CAVE would actually do its part but we know they won't...

Maybe if Capcom ports the Arcade Cabinet to PC and make it like the Genesis packs on Steam that'll mean more shooters on the comp.

I knew the port existed but it actually runs better too? Is it as much a pain to get running as Raiden IV?

If anyone finds the mythical Radirgy Noah PC port let me know.

On topic: There's a PC port of Raystorm that is pretty much the same as the G-Darius PSX to PC port

My 5 minutes of googling seemed to indicate that the pc port was distributed as disc 5 of the "Milestone Sound Collection".

As seen here

One time, it was a hassle to get running, then on another pc it worked flawlessly. You might need to download additional files to get RIV running, don't remember sorry. Try googling and possibly some exotic forums like:

Good luck

Thing is, I've already gone through them sites along with many others.

It was mjclark and I in the end who got to it to even launch with commandline and a bit of delay in the first place, which all the other sites made alternate scripts from. That ArcadePC Loader comes with a RIV_Launcher.exe that works a bit more consistently but attempts to rotate it back to yoko, thus resulting in malfunction for any computer that hasn't got rotation support.

If Raiden III is the same deal then I'd say the proper PC port would be better off.

I just got my copy of darius gaiden on pc and I can confirm that it does indeed work on the windows 7 platform, when I boot into linux, I'll report and tell you guys if it runs through wine.

The darius gaiden pc port is a modified version of the saturn port. It has difficulty settings and the a limited number of credits (3 per player, which encourages 2p runs). I have noticed some issues with the sound, it might be my computer or operating system, but the sfx is mixed way too loud you can barely hear the amazing ost. They have a sound tab in options, but for me the sound streams are both attached to the sfx slider and the bgm slider does nothing. Also the game over jingle is missing :( One of my favorite (and most heard) tracks.

Edit: I am on linux now and can confirm that it works exactly the same in wine on linux, so same issues, but plays nicely, and +1 for gaming on linux :P
