Is this controler good for shmups?

Post by gongassk898 »

I need a controller for pc and ps3 to play all types of games. I need a controller with analogue and with a decent d-pad to play all genres.
Is this controller good? Can anyone ask me?

Won't bet on that one. Is there anything in particular that recommended it to you? It looks to me pretty close to the same as any of countless no-name 360/PS3/PC compatible controllers. For that price I'm skeptical also because it's a wireless controller...probably not much beyond the cost of a standard wireless controller, and they have to make money somehow (Razer controllers aren't really great in this respect either).

There isn't a best controller for all types of games. For PC you're in luck, you probably already have a surprisingly good controller - the keyboard. Give that a serious look and don't dismiss it out of hand. Other options include real joysticks (expensive though) and Saturn PC pads (although there is some disagreement about which of these are good).

Personally I use a 360 controller occasionally and I don't really care about using the joystick even for a game like Akai Katana...still too cheap to buy a real joystick for a console thus far.

If you want an excellent arcade joystick for use with a 360 & PC platforms, I'd suggest picking up an Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE variant joystick with all Seimitsu arcade parts for your shmupping needs. Of course, some folks prefer using Sanwa based arcade joysticks for their shmupping needs. It all comes down to a matter of personal preference in the end.

The Hori PS3 branded Real Arcade Pro SA (Special Addition) variant arcade joystick is another fine choice as well to consider. It's compatible with the PC platform also.

Both above listed Hori arcade sticks are great on Mame/Mame32 with your favorite shmup roms if you want that unmistakable world class Japanese styled arcade joystick experience that money can buy.

i like this controller because its like the 360 standard but for ps3/pc. I want to know if the d-pad is good because everyone say that the 360 standard controller d-pad is very bad, and i don´t know if this d-pad is better or worse than the original x-box standard controller.
I don´t want a arcade joystick, i want a gamepad that is good for fighters ,shmups and shooters to play on pc / ps3. I know that is hard to find but i found this one and if you can answer me if is a good choice plz answer. Thx

For 30 quid, that's a reasonable price for it. Pick it up & post your review/impressions of it.

It's always a good idea to have access to various 3rd-party gaming controllers to spice up gameplay...just don't limit yourself to d-pads as arcade joysticks open up a new world to gaming if used in the appropiate genre(s) like shmups & puzzlers, etc. Any serious hard-core console gamer has plently of controllers on hand for those speciality gaming needs, myself included. It's a given alrighty.

30 GBP is $45 right now...I wouldn't call that exactly promising for a wireless controller. It may be cheap (relative to other wireless controllers...) but it's also likely to fall apart sooner. Very mixed reviews as well:

It's your money though...don't be angry at me if it's no good though

I don't recommend anything other than a seimitsu stick and, from what I understand, a saturn pad. I can't vouch for the controller you're describing but if you can shell out a little extra you can guarantee yourself satisfied with one of those choices as they are the most common.

I use the Hori Fighting Commander 3 PRO (PS3) with the PS3 when I'm too lazy to break out the Mayflash (with Seimitsu stick/buttons). Won't work on PS2 games if your PS3 happens to be backwards compatible or you are playing PSN PS2 classics like Raiden III; works great with PSN PSone classics (and physical PS1 games). I think it even works on PC.

I use the FightPad for x360 and PS3, really good for shmups and aracade games.

Qanba are also nice IMO (I have a HRAP2 and a DC Agetec and my Qanba Q3XS is probably my favourite)
