Just about to buy a PAL Xbox 360...

Post by NAVVARR »

I've just bought a few 360 PAL games...

Akai Katana
Deathsmiles Deluxe Edition
DODONPACHI RESURRECTION Deluxe
and
UNDER DEFEAT HD DELUXE EDITION

I've still to buy a 360 to actually play them- any recommendations?

I would like to also be able to play imports- how easy is this?- Do you have to physically mod a 360- can you use a software mod / patch?

I was thinking of buying a new 360 -the slim one with a 250GB hard drive- or would i be better to go for an older model - are they easier to mod and play imports?

Would appreciate any advice.
Cheers

If what you want to do, is place nice legal games -- then a slim is a very good investment. The loading times on the slim are a LOT faster than the older models - better hard drive, generally nicer. Loading time on my own game is ridiculous on the old models, acceptably decent on the new ones.

As for modding/chipping etc - not something I can really advise on, though there a few wizards with soldering irons around on these boards who might be able to assist you in those matters in private. Generally the advice I've received is that it's generally easier and less risky to just get a Jap 360 for region locked titles. For instance, say you want DLC to go with your purchase? You want to risk spending money on XBLA via a hacked console? I personally wouldn't.

However the cases on the old models are extremely easy to open up if you want to get inside and have a poke around... and you can pick them up quite cheap on ebay

Thanks for the advice.

I'll probably just pick up a slim 250GB PAL Xbox and once I get into the imports, I'll probably pick up a cheap Japanese model and use that.

If there was an easy solution - ie a software method then yeah- great. But I'm not going to start messing about with soldering and what not.

Loading times are the same once you install the games. Forget about Xbox Live if you're going down the J-Tag road.

Amazon were selling new 360s for £100 at one point, but now I see they're going for £200. Extraordinary.
