How do I get the best out of B&O MX4000 for Retrogaming

Post by wilwong1971 »

Hi all;

Having been bitten by the retrogaming stuff, have gradually built up some hardware to run a CRT 240p arcade setup.

It started with a Phillps CM8833 Monitor and a Xbox running Final Burn, now onto PC running through USMA into a B&O MX4000

The picture and smoothless I get from this setup is frankly stunning!

I am running Groovymame with a ATI X300 passive card, with Calamity's hacked ATI drivers and ArcadeOSD, still getting my head round all the settings, but that's all part of the fun!

Now getting into nitty gritty of tweaking the TV, I have gone into the Service menu on the MX4000 (MENU 1 1 GO when in a snow screen channel) and have the following options to adjust:

Rdr,Gdr,Rcu,Gcu,BRI,COL,Hfq,Hph,Ham,VAam,Vsc,Vsh,Vli,Ewc,Ewp,Ewe

Wondering if anyone know any pertinant settings to adjust (position of the screen etc) At present the MX4000 has some slight overscan to the left and a little bit of distortion on the top of the screen when running in 240p. Also can one put up a test card while in this mode to fine tune the adjustment, rather than seeing the 'Snow screen'?

Would like to learn a tackle ArcadeOSD,VMaker and creating special modelines for MX4000 which I'm happy to post when I figure this out.

Ta

PS, also when Tating the MX4000 I find the edges of the picture starts going green, is there a safe way of Tating these TVs (Do I have to switch off etc)
Wil

Jup, I got a MX4000 (together with a beo4 remote) and a MX6000 for cheap on our local internet auctioning plattform.

The mx4000 is easy to adjust with the beo4 remote. Futurematt5 has created a nice little chart where you can input your tvs default settings before fiddling around. Futurematt5 has some great tutorials on youtube.

Unfortunately, my MX6000 has an "old" firmware, version 1.1. That means, I cannot get into service mode for extended picture settings by simply pushing menu 1 1 go, but that I have to shortcircuit a jumper on one of the tvs pcbs... I haven't been arsed to mod the mx6000 yet, as the picture is perfectly adjustable via the xbox360 shooters themselves (hooray for sophisticated picture settings in games, tate FTW!).

And btw, you only can enter service mode in the "tv-setting" (the white snow...), and not on one of the 2 av-channels (scart channels). :( This is really a pitty, it would have been so much easier changing picture adjustements directly in the active "channel" (in my case: Xbox360 or supergun hooked on the tv).

I got a MX4002. And I am disappointed....

Can not adjust the contrast, color etc when connected via SCART RGB.

Picture is far to dim and weak colors for gaming.
