STG Weekly #4: Fire Shark (1p version)

Post by Aquas »

Hey guys. We will be live today around 2:30 CST. (1h & 1/2 of this posting, give or take.)

http://twitch.tv/stgweekly and Submit specific comments or questions to the stgweekly Twitter if you like. Youtube upload later of course.

Today we are mostly marveling at this stupidly difficult game being smashed in a japanese superplay.

I got to play a PCB of Same^3 at a shmup meet last year and really liked it. Really fun despite the difficulty.

Good episode and awesome play by ASTRO.

I did a mockup for the startup screen. A clean infoscreen in 640x360. I'll upload it later today.

Cool episode. I think it may have been nice to emphasize the different methods of dodging when playing something like Fire-shark compared to a modern bullet hell. I believe it was Frenetic who commented about "always needing to move around", which is certainly not the case with most cave games. Also, seems to be considerably less tap-dodges and bullet herding in older Toaplan, instead the player is often making longer steady movements back and forth. Just my 2cents :)

How about Gaiares?

That looks great! Though I'd replace the pumpkin shmupsforum logo with something else. Maybe someone design an STGWeekly logo?

Also, make the date have separators, and maybe be YYYY/MM/DD ?

Cool. I like having the info on the player / commentators displayed. Good idea. Yeah, if it isn't apparent enough I suck at graphics :)

At first I went with a white/grey approach, but after inserting the mockup into a screenshot of youtube (white/grey itself) it was pretty much clear I should go with a darker solution.

@Aquas: Thanks. If you have your next show planed message me. Than we can start a test round.

I'll add a STG Weekly logo to my todos.

Separators for the date could be added. Aquas how do you feel about that? (for example 2013/01/06 or 2013-01-06)
