Figured I might as well submit this now since I’m not sure when I’m going to play this game again. 10 million will happen eventually.

First not-Thunder Force AC arcade game clear, so I might as well post it. This is a very nice little game that I want to put some decent time into.

My 4th Toaplan 10m but it feels like my first real one because this is the first one I had to spend a significant amount of time learning recovery on.

Currently working on the Hishouzame 1cc, figured I'd post a score up here as incentive to continue working for it, since this is PB for me thus far.

Threw in a coin without thinking about it and just happened to surpass my old score by a respectable amount. So close to the 2-all without even thinking I'd make it that far... maybe next time.

Seriously, if people want me to start deleting regional/console/whateverthefuck scoreboards en masse, just let me know. I hate it all just as much as everyone else does. The only version of the game that anyone anywhere in the world should be playing seriously is arcade Hi Sho Zame with no dipswitch fuckery.

Re: Hi Sho Zame (Flying/Sky Shark)
Are there any notable differences between the Japanese arcade version and the international versions? The Perikles difficulty list has the world versions 1 place lower than the Japanese version, so I imagine there is some tiny little difference between them, but I don't know what it is.
Okay, I just read the first post again... no known differences, I see. Maybe I'll spend some time with the international versions, which I've never played, to see if there are any differences that I can find, but I'm not really sure if it's worth it, especially if you decide to kill the international scoreboards.
BTW it looks like you have me on there twice, in both 10th and 18th place.

Re: Hi Sho Zame (Flying/Sky Shark)
Sorry about that, fixed.
Not sure I follow. There are three named versions of the arcade game: Hi Sho Zame (Japan), Flying Shark ("World"), and Sky Shark (US). Hi Sho Zame has various differences from the other versions, and most of those differences make the game harder; this is like most Japanese versions of Toaplan games. However, I have no idea if there are any differences between those other versions. It's rare, but totally possible; just look at the mess that is Raiden Fighters, where there are at least three slightly different versions of each game.

Re: Hi Sho Zame (Flying/Sky Shark)
Okay, I get it now. I have only ever played the Japanese version, so I'm not sure about any of the differences between any of the versions or what they did to make the international versions easier. It's typical for Toaplan's international versions to be easier, so not really surprising.
I'm still not sure if there is a difference between Twin Cobra and the 2P version of Kyuukyoku Tiger aside from the title screen, now that I think about it, but I'm pretty sure the title screen is the only difference.

Re: Hi Sho Zame (Flying/Sky Shark)
I don't have any experience with that version yet, but I do know that Same!x3 2P is different from Fire Shark... and also that there are various different versions of Same!x3 2P... that game is a mess.

Re: Hi Sho Zame (Flying/Sky Shark)
I seem to have gotten a new personal best without intending to get it, and without autofire somehow, so here it is. Not sure how I managed to get a higher score and not make it as far unless it's from unintentionally milking the final boss because I couldn't clear that wave of shit that comes after it on the loop.

Re: Hi Sho Zame (Flying/Sky Shark)
This will clean up very nicely with slower autofire; try 5Hz for stages. That speed isn't available on M2 ShotTriggers, but I think most Hori controllers that have autofire have a 5Hz setting. At first I wondered why anyone would ever want such a slow rate of fire, but then I played this game and found that 5Hz is exactly what you want here.Angry Hina wrote:Arcade Hishouzame

really? A hard game for a first 1cc, isnt it?emphatic wrote:Congrats, it's quite a feat. It was my first 1CC too. Back in 1987.Angry Hina wrote: Well... its my first 1cc ^^;
I guess this is true but as you said, the switch version doesnt have such a thing. And some planes and ship from behind coming can be killed quite fast with this fast rate.emphatic wrote:This will clean up very nicely with slower autofire; try 5Hz for stages. Re: Hi Sho Zame (Flying/Sky Shark)
Lack of the best autofire speed on PS4/Switch is why I fire manually in this game. Firing manually is not so bad here, and for larger enemies you can use a separate 30Hz button to pointblank. Of course, this is only really practical with an arcade controller, so if you are playing on a regular controller it's going to be miserable; better to just use the 10Hz auto in that case, which should be a little more useful for stages than the 30Hz.

Re: Hi Sho Zame (Flying/Sky Shark)
Damn, you are catching up to me quickly! I have been sort of half-seriously trying to beat my current high score using my PCB, but I have been unsuccessful so far. Time to get serious and actually practice, I think. Autofire greatly helps against the last boss, but I don't have that, so if I die there on the loop on PCB I am basically screwed.
I don't have anything to do right now, so I'm going to watch your replay!

Re: Hi Sho Zame (Flying/Sky Shark)
If you place yourself at the right sport in the last boss, before the ships come from the top, its not to hard to do the boss with the pea shooter only and without autofire and bombs. You dont need to go up close and can use the three bombs, when you arrive the tanks. With a wider shot its not too hard to go through the boss and the zako shots. But I dont know if it turns out the same in 2nd loop... good luck ^^
