Interesting, I didn't know about this. The NASA space shuttle program has been cancelled. But, the Air Force has a space shuttle like plane.

Even the top-secret F-117A stealth fighter made by the famed Lockheed's black-ops division, Skunk Works, (same division that made the SR-71 Blackbird spyplane) was in full operation back in 1980 (in total secracy). Predates the 1982 theatrical release of Firefox (the telekinetic-based MIG-31 fightercraft) quite easily.
