Such thing as 15hz lcd monitors?
Such thing as 15hz lcd monitors?
Do these exist? Crossed my mind since the NeoGeoX is coming out. I wonder how accurate the timing is to the original based on the screen.

If a TV has a composite input it must be 15khz compatible.
I guess thats what you mean. HZ is equivalent to frames per second. I don't know anything that runs at 15 frames per second.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Re: Such thing as 15hz lcd monitors?
He likely means a native 15khz LCD. There are yes, all handhelds use such a thing.
Re: Such thing as 15hz lcd monitors?
Agreed with Fudoh. I thought of handhelds too. Maybe the original PlayStation redesign's portable LCD screen is 15KHz, but that's so specialized and also old and probably terrible I wouldn't want to mess with it.
p.s. Engadget is worthless, as usual.
I'd forget about the Neo Geo X right now. The screen isn't even the right aspect ratio.mongusa32 wrote:I wonder how accurate the timing is to the original based on the screen.

Yep, the PSone's dedicated RGB LCD screen is a 15kHz 4:3 aspect ratio screen and would be fine for use with arcade PCBs or any other low-res gaming console if tate'd.
Even those little LCD screens used in the current Japanese pachinko games are 15kHz as well -- can be used with the low-res 15.7kHz arcade PCBs as well. How cool is that?
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

Laddies,
I have discovered one possible issue when using LCD monitors to display an analog signal, please peruse this summary of my findings so far. I believe that many 15KHz LCD displays (handhelds, or other dedicated devices) are already frequency-matched to the source material, or the source is already digital. But if you intend to play different sources, this may end up being a problem. I wouldn't mind hearing any inputs about general TV use with analog sources, either.

You can get them, but they are wicked expensive.

This guy is the man!! worked in the display industry for decades, and one of the only guys with CRT tubes left, although sizes and chassis types are extremely limited at this point; last I heard, all he had left were 39" tubes and VGA(31khz) chassis, but he might have some other stuff.
Shoot him an email if you are serious and he will respond with pricing and options.
Don't waste his time though if you aren't ready to buy, or he likely wont respond to future correspondence from you. He deals mostly with large companies, supplying them with displays for various applications, but he will deal with individuals, just gotta act right.

Really? I gotta find one of these, and instructions on how to feed it RGB ...PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Yep, the PSone's dedicated RGB LCD screen is a 15kHz 4:3 aspect ratio screen and would be fine for use with arcade PCBs or any other low-res gaming console if tate'd.

it connects directly in the PSOne's Multi-AV output, so it's the same connector used in PS1/2/3 RGB cables.and instructions on how to feed it RGB
