Soukyugurentai Saturn Two versions?
Soukyugurentai Saturn Two versions?
I've been digging back into my Saturn library lately and started playing this STV gem again. After playing a few rounds, I decided to jump on ebay to see how it's kept its value and for the first time noticed there are two versions of the cover art. One which takes up the entire front and mine which has white borders around the art. Does this mean mine is the "budget" version? I also have a demo for Battle Garegga on mine, was that on the other print?

Re: Soukyugurentai Saturn Two versions?
As far as I understand, there are two releases of Souky.
One is the first, standard version (it's what I have). No white borders, and has English text if you play on a US Saturn - it also has text glitching up the ass and if you skip the take-off sequence the screen is f--k'd. No Garegga demo, either.
The second reprint is Soukyogurentai Otoyuko, which removes the graphical glitches (and the English text, sadly), and is generally a harder version to find, since it was a reprint specifically made to address the issues of the first port, I believe.
If I'm wrong, someone please correct me!

Right on spot EmperorIng.
Another difference is the Otokuyo version has the red kanji lettering of Otokuyo below the title on the cover art.

Awesome, so I have the better version. Thanks for the info, guys!
Re: Soukyugurentai Saturn Two versions?
FYI, just a technicality but Otokuyo wasn't a mere second production run but rather the budget price version—that's what the title implies actually—that just so happened to include some changes along with a 1/2 price reduction. I'm fine with Otokuyo but for folks who hate "the Best" versions, perhaps that difference matters.

Not a big deal to me. Normally I prefer first prints of a game but since this version is glitch free and includes the exclusive demo, I don't mind at all. Funny, I've owned this game for over 12 years and didn't realize all this until now.Ganelon wrote:FYI, just a technicality but Otokuyo wasn't a mere second production run but rather the budget price version—that's what the title implies actually—that just so happened to include some changes along with a 1/2 price reduction. Re: Soukyugurentai Saturn Two versions?
While this topic is up, I've got an oddball Souky-related question:
I have the "Otokuyo" release, and when I put it into a CD player to play/rip the Redbook audio, it plays tracks from Garegga, Mahou Daisakusen, and Kingdom Grand Prix (which can be found in the Sound Test menu of the game), but not from Souky itself. I'm curious, does only the original print version have Souky's music on there?

Souky streams its music directly from the disc. Its redbook audio is the "Raizing Sound History" collection, which contains music from its "greatest hits" so to speak.
A shame, because Soukyogurentai's soundtrack is pretty good. But hey, free Garegga music, so I can't complain.
Ha ha, when I got the game 2 years ago, I was afraid I was gipped and had gotten some low-grade audio on the disc as opposed to the orchestral electronic soundtrack.

Interesting. Thanks for clearing that up, it'd been bugging me a bit.

Oh, excellent - I didn't know there were other Raizing soundtracks on the disc. I've got the Otokuyo version, too, so I'll have to get ripping!
