VGA to RGB SCART?

Post by DarkSlayer »

so i want to connect my PC to my CRT but want to keep the signal RGB and not composite.

Are there any adaptors on the market at all? iv been looking quite hard and can only find how to make homebrew cables...

Any advice?

Thanks :)

VGA to Scart cables are quite easily available, but the connection is non standard with split sync signals on the VGA output and only a composite sync input on the scart side. There's no way to know if a readily made cable would work, unless you know the cable and your actual needs.

You usually need a at least sync combiner inside the cable also depending on your CRT possibly also a power supply to add the RGB switching voltage required by your TV.

If you use Soft15khz remember that the splash/bios/boot screens of your PC will still display in 31khz or higher and might damage your display. In think an external VGA to RGB converter is the better choice, but that's up to you.

Ok thanks, but do these converters add any lag or image degregation?

thanks :)

EDIT: also the only converters i can find output composite in the form of a yellow RCA connector- the quality isnt as good as RGB scart im assuming

If you want 480i RGB output there're quite a few scan converters available. If you want 240p you need an Extron Emotia or an Ultracade UVC. Look for "Extron VSC" on eBay for 480i ones with RGB output.

He's not looking at an upscaler, he's looking for scan converter (31 to 15khz, opposite direction directed compared to the CGA to VGA converter you linked to).
