edit: that "gibberish" was read in the text file. it was not in the game itself. the game doesn't run, or do anything of any kind. applocale doesn't help. it shows the typical applocale message, then doesn't run when I click ok.

You may want to set your Non-Unicode setting to Japanese, as some doujin games don't even run with AppLocale (I think Sora was one of those).
The first line is supposed to say リソースを開放しています。 ("I have to open the resource." according to Google Translate), and the second リソースの開放が完了しました。 ("Release of resources has been completed."). That's the same thing my log file says at the end (when working fine), though the numbers on the side were 4491311 and 4492505 (probably milliseconds running). However, my log has my computer specs between the header and log information, and the end has 正常終了 (normal termination) between dashes like how "RefRain System Version. V1.02.1" is on your log.
The actual problem might possibly be related to Japanese file names in the internal file system of the game, which you wouldn't be able to do anything about other than switch your Non-Unicode setting.

well, thanks for the help, but it didn't work. I think the version I'm using is either borked, or my computer just doesn't like this game.

Anyway, RefRain is a relatively new game, so it supports Windows 7, Vista, and XP. I doubt that it's your operating system. It also doesn't need Applocale or Japanese non-Unicode settings to run, although it's a good habit to always use one of them when playing doujin games. I tried RefRain out on a Windows 7 machine that has absolutely nothing to do with Asian languages, and it ran fine.
The fact that your Debug.log doesn't even list your computer's hardware is strange. I've tried deliberately crashing the game in various ways, and each time it always generated a proper Debug.log file. Have you tried pulling a fresh copy off the disc and letting the auto-updater update it to the latest version?
an unrelated note: (I don't wanna start a new topic) when I switched back to english locale, my BitTorrent stayed stuck in japanese locale. everything else is fine, though. its only that program. I tried shutting it down and then restarting it to no avail.

Perhaps you could contact them for support on their site. They speak good enough english and from the looks of it, they seem to do their best to respond to anyone who posts.
as it turns out, the config.txt was making the game act strange. I deleted it and wrote a new one myself, and now it works fine.
