great read man - really like your piece on visiting Tokyo too
though you have a pic, you did not speak of the 1/1 Gundam - was he impressive in the flesh?

That was awesome -- great content, but also an interesting pick for for an interview. At the end, I was certain you were going to throw out the quintessential Japanese ending interview question: "Can you say a few words to our readers?"
Personally I'm interested on how the rights to the Toaplan DVD would work out, as the most concrete thing I've heard in all my days came from Uemura who did extensive research on the rights at Cave. According to him, "the rights are simply not out there".

Is there a problem with the rights? because Super Sweep released this last year.

I could paraphrase, but I'd rather not spoil the surprise.KAI wrote:Is there a problem with the rights? because Super Sweep released this last year.
Toaplan Forever
Again, that's just one person's experience.

Re: My interview with INH boss Minoru Ikeda
Thanks for the kind comments everyone.
It's just a hobby blog (for my SHMUP obsession haha), nothing professional so apologies if it's a bit amateur. I'd have loved to know more about the Toaplan DVD too, but didn't really want to press the issue if it's all lost in bundles of red tape.
As regards the final question, I dunno, it's just something I felt I like to sign off a piece with. Having these influential people answering questions is great, but just as fun to see what games they like to play too.
As for the Diver City Gundam, yep it's really cool. It towers over you in real life, quite a sight to behold. I bought some gifts from the Gundam Front shop which is at the side of the statue. I shot a time lapse video of it for my little Darius Burst fan movie thing I did while on my Summer Vacation this year so you can see a bit more of it here:

I will do a proper article on it soon though, hopefully from a different angle than the ones that have already been done over the years.
Thanks again everyone for checking out the article.

That's really interesting. I've been curious about how much interest there is in mechanical pinball in Japan, since it would probably be drowned out by the pachinko industry. Did Bally/Williams/Gottlieb ever distribute there during their heyday? Aside from a few kiddie medal games, I've never heard of any mechanical pinballs originating from Japan. There was Data East Pinball, but that was their American division. My company is leasing 3 pinball machines at Takadanobaba MiKaDo.

Pinball is a weird one. It was around back in the day, but from what I've read, never really took off. However, Tokyo is a city of niche, and mainly filled w/ people that have Adult ADD. As such, you can find just about anything you want (except killer Mexican food). WSJ actually did an article on "micro business" in Tokyo. Pretty cool read. That's really interesting.
