How is San Diego?

Post by GateofThunderforceIII »

Hi folks! Long time reader, rare poster, recent re-registerer. For anyone who is familiar with the fine city of San Diego, can you all please let me know what the place is like? I'm in the US Air Force currently stationed at McChord AFB 50 minutes south of Seattle. In a little over three weeks, I'll be driving into SD to call home for the following 3 years. Unfortunately, I'll be stationed in a Navy base. Just joking. Sort of.

The Comic Con is based out of there, right? So it sounds like there will be plenty of fellow geeks and dweebs. But are there a lot of San Diegan gamers (of the more hardcore kind)? How is the arcade scene? And, <ahem> are there lots of nice (as in old fashioned and wholesome) girls (hot'n spicy Latinas, please--but I'll take any hot'n nice chick) there? Please say yes...I've heard that women there outnumber men. How accurate is this? Please say that SD is much like a seafood restaurant. You know...they serve lots of clam and absolutey no sausage (I don't like competition).

Enough about women (for now). I'm actually not looking forward to all that sunshine since I'm right at home with Seattle's kind of weather (it's home afterall). But at least it'll get all the slutty sluts to wear their filthy thongs to the beach...something to look at. Plus, Magic Mountain isn't too far away...more scantily clad sluts (again, just to look at)! Thanks, fellow shooterers!

San Diego is warm and nice. Hot Latinas abound. Asian ladies aplenty as well. I loooove San Diego. One of my favorite US cities. I've done lots of drinking, a little skateboarding but unfortunately no arcading or games shopping. They must have both an arcade and an indie/import game shop of some sort though. Have fun! I envy you for reals. Look at my location and you'll know what I mean instantly.

Actually... Now that I think about it... a well mannered Airforce boy at a Navy base? All a sudden I don't envy you as much ;)

San Diego is without a doubt my favourite city and indeed area in the US.
I lived there in 1985 and again in 1988 and had a great time.
It´s close to everything; the ocean, the mountains, the desert, Mexico and the area has a great climate year-round.

I am currently in San Diego for leave before I go to Norfolk, VA. San Diego is my hometown. I grew up there. Very temperate weather year-round with very few extremely hot or cold days. And lots of beautiful ladies!

Also, if you know where to look, you can find some arcades with good shmups.

A few that I know of:

Admiral Robinson Recreational Center, 32nd Street Naval Station: Raiden Fighters 1 and Strikers 1945 III

Mission Valley Center, Tilt Arcade: Mars Matrix and ESP Galuda

Is ESP Galuda still at Tilt Arcade?

Cool, Thanks! If you can see how much it cost I would appreciate it.

Might check it out if it is still there...

I went today and, yes, ESP Galuda is still in the Tilt arcade @ Mission Valley Center. Mars Matrix is still there as well. They added a Metal Slug 4 cab there.

I'm going to have to go against the grain. San Diego is exspensive and over-crowded. If you live with Mommy and Daddy you might think SD is so spectacular. If you have to pay all the bills, it's not a nice place unless you make a bunch of money. If you live on base, it shouldn't be too bad. BTW, Magic Mountain is in Valencia which is like 3 hours away. There is always Lego Land. :?

+ : Nice weather, hot chicks, funny little road signs they show "illegals" crossing the highway

- : Exspensive, traffic, some people are huge stuck up assholes (more than most places excluding L.A. and Hollywood), damn tourists going to the SD Zoo and Sea World

Hi everybody! All right, so I've been here in SD for about two and a half weeks now. What do I think so far? OooooWOOOOW!!!!!!!! Awesome city! Though I think I have a more appropriate name for this place: HOT PUSSY CITY!!!!!!!!!! Good Lord, they're EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!! Mission Beach (jizzin' the pants)...Mission Valley Center...Fashion Valley (for the high maintenance yet still very hot puss's)...Point Loma...Downtown during the day (with the gorgeous restaurant hostesses looking pretty outside) or night (with the thousands of wild drunk party sluts roaming the streets)...heck, even the local Albertson's for cryin' out loud!!! Problem is...now I'm intimidated...

But aside from the mega tons of smokin' pink, this city really is beautiful. I have to cross the Coronado bridge to get to work everyday and it's always fun to drive across it either way you go. This is actually one city I'm taking time to explore. So far, I'm thoroughly impressed. But I can see the potential for snootiness from the locals. Maybe especially in Coronado. I haven't experienced it yet, but I'm not a social person anyhow.

As for complaints. I actually have a few: 1) California drivers need to slow the f*ck down!! I mean, no wonder gas is so expensive here...the way people here drive, they're all keeping demand so high from driving too damn fast and burning gas like a bitch!!! Slow down people, please!! 2)the crowding sucks a little...but not as much as 3) the traffic (even though I actually do not hit it commuting to work and back). And 4) too many military dudes (Navy and Marines) to ruin the local women.

Someone mentioned the illegals crossing sign. I saw one of them not too far from the border, but above the picture it said "now hiring".

Thanks to everyone who replied!! Now go back to 2-D shooting!!!!!!!!!

Just got back from finding Tilt arcade at Mission Valley Center. VERY cool place. ESPGaluda and Mars Matrix are still there. I was surprised to see Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution. I got to the third level on one credit with ESP (which is pretty good for this ESPscrub) and one credited Street Fighter Alpha 3. But playing Mars Matrix with one button? No thanks. That kicked my ass. Hopefully there are even better arcades than this somewhere in SD, but probably not...
