Where do you put your arcade stick ?
Where do you put your arcade stick ?
Hi guys (:
I purchased my first arcade stick one month ago and its great put I noticed sometimes my accuracy turned to shit when trying to control the ship. I understood today that putting my arcade stick on my knees is a bad idea since it keeps moving, and having my stick laid on a chair on something was feeling a lot better.
How do you guys deal with that, am I the only one getting bothered by this issue ?
I tried to search for answers before creating this thread but since my english sucks I have no idea what to look for, so I'm sorry for creating another one if thats a frequent question.

Re: Where do you put your arcade stick ?
while I'm not exactly brilliant, my preferred method is sitting slumped in a fairly narrow armchair, which kinda locks me stable or something

I put it up my arse. Seriously. Play XII stag with the stick up your ass and there's no going back.

I tend to just keep it on my lap. I don't notice too much difference when I put it on my desk instead, and that requires me to move my keyboard and clean my desk, so I never do that. I just make sure to not move my legs

With my current setup, I just use a sturdy coffee table with the proper leg clearance and hoist up the ol' Hori 360 Real Arcade Pro EX-SE on it for some serious shmupping. It won't budge during heated shmup sessions either (which is a plus in my book) with that hefty joystick base, indeed.

I use it on three different devices, so the answer is "wherever I need it."
Not a fan of lap sticks, I need a desk.

On the desk in front of me.

With my old Madcatz TE it was ok on the lap as it was real heavy.

Re: Where do you put your arcade stick ?
yes that's a good point, with my Qanba Q3 XS it is definitely heavy enough to stay stable on my lap, as is the HRAP 2, though to a lesser extent, by Hori EX 2, or indeed the Agetec DC stick (due to it's size), I find I need to put them on something more stable than my lap...1up wrote:On the desk in front of me.

Re: Where do you put your arcade stick ?
That's how I would use mine as well, but I very rarely use my arcade sticks. Cabinet ftw. Hey, 1up, what's up with the non-zooming? Or do you prefer playing small like that?

whats the point of TATE-ing if your screen is that small?

Re: Where do you put your arcade stick ?
My lap is the most comfortable position and at a constant distance from my arms so it's always my preferred setup for competitive play. I don't experience the sliding that I've heard many others complain about but that could be the way I sit, hold the joystick, and press the buttons.
It strains my wrists when I put the stick on the floor. A desk is good at enhancing immobility but there's no point for me to play on a desk when I can't bring that desk to tournaments and where other desks will be at varying heights. A candy cab would be ideal but I don't have one currently.

It was a Quick snap I took to show off my new neoflex stand. I have since zoomed the game to fill as much of the screen as possibilistisk.emphatic wrote:That's how I would use mine as well, but I very rarely use my arcade sticks. Cabinet ftw. Re: Where do you put your arcade stick ?
I have an Eightarc Onyx, which is basically a factory-modded Qanba Q3. It's large, heavy, and rests easily in my lap. The base is felt-coated: if you have any problems with it sliding around, coat the bottom panel with felt. I don't know why this works, but it has phenomenal gripping power.
You can usually find adhesive-backed felt at hardware, furniture, or craft stores. Some people recommend grippy rubber, which I have no experience with but should work equally well if not better.
When I'm in my dorm I usually put it on my desk, but sometimes it's not at a comfortable height.
When I'm at home I put it away. My Blast City is infinitely better. ;D

When I'm not playing at the cab, I sit cross legged and put the stick on my lap/my legs.

Re: Where do you put your arcade stick ?
I usually use one of those adjustable laptop caddys to put the stick on.
The only joysticks I found were ok for lap use were the MAS neo geo sticks (because it's sort of like a table all by itself) and the regular AES sticks, I guess because of how the stick slopes at both sides and comes to a point in the middle.
