Game Storage

Would be curious to know what people use for game storage?

Book cases? Tupperware/Rubbermaid containers? Shoe boxes?

I decided to build my own custom shelving. Bought rough cut pine, planed it and cut it to size with my roommate. Cost around $120, I think. 7x5' wide shelves.

media towers from ikea. I chose the long slim design because it can store a ton of games and still look classy ;)

Mostly cardboard boxes unfortunately. It's a pain to retrieve items but there are no good pre-built shelves available in the US that provide stability, size, and UV protection. I've searched online and offline for a decade now but haven't encountered anything that fits the bill. Perhaps there's an opportunity there for a budding designer/entrepreneur.

Just an ordinary bookcase here. No pics, too lazy.

I used to use the top of my TV, had this huge-ass stack of games on top of it, if it got any taller, some of the jewel cases would have cracked from the weight of the things on top of it. So I had to move it.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Yeah, I'm concerned about UV as well and want to make some sort of sliding cover. For now I just keep my shelves out of direct sunlight. Bleaching powers of the sun are a bastard.

I build my own shelves, use pre-made and any old junk I can find. I just keep all the blinds closed in my house, sans a few openings for the cats to get in the window sill and look out. I hate the sun/am a vampire.

If something sits in direct sunlight it will fade just about anything overtime. Book bindings, game spines, figures--all can get distorted/yellowed if kept for too long. I've seen too many good things bite the dust to such a fate. Sad days.

If you're concerned, better to treat your windows and protect everything.

If I owned the place I probably would. For now that room tends to have curtains and blinds drawn at all times.

I put all my disc games in case logic CD binders. The other brands that I've tried scratched up the discs so I just use case logic. Then I put the cases in a box in the attic, closet, whatever. For older systems with game cartridges I put that stuff in a box and just get it out of the closet when I want to play it.

Yeah, I mean, I guess if you don't care then it's not an issue. Bothers the hell out of me. But I'm the type that walks by and inspects damage on something that I've known existed for 5+ years and worries about it.

I store all my games in the box my Street Fighter IV TE came in and a few others that can't fit into it in a standard delivery box, under my bed. I really don't want to lose them all to the upcoming earthquake. ;_;

I have them all over the place in a huge assortment of boxes, bins, shelves, CD racks, DVD towers, and tables.

It's fine when you know where everything is.

See now that's respectable and presentable. I aprove and your house is clean.

Image

Here is mine. Floor is a bit cluttered from cleaning out a few boxes. And quite a bit has been added.

Same goes here... a new sound system and other stuff has been added since this picture was taken.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Really going to hook your retro consoles up to THAT display?

Are you kidding.. this is the best they have EVER looked. I was shocked at how they looked via RGB the 1st time.

And these are taken with a camera, in person it looks better. I'm quite happy with that TV. No lag, fantastic color and supports 480p and HD natively.. no upscaling. Plus with a flick of a button I have 4x3 or 16x9 with no resolution loss.

LOL and the bottom left... have an XRGB2 for PCB support. Need to get a mini, although my set up now has no issues.

I am aware of the TV's specifications. I'm also aware of Sony's Digital Reality Correction being a fucking bastard that butchers everything less than 480p. Bad enough to even screen tear low res content. I did miss the XRGBs which solve that problem, but that's the only way that the TV is acceptable for SD content. That's why I bought a 36" SD Trinitron for anything without 480p.

More than acceptable... down right fantastic. Picture is worth a thousand words. I have 2 TVs as it, can't fit a 3rd.

I used to freak out, but then I realised this junk only has value for me. If you plan to re-sell these (and go through with it), then I suppose taking care of things matters. I'm the end user for everything I have, so if my things get trashed, it's no big loss... I'll just get another one or live without it. This doesn't mean I go outta my way to wreck things, but if they wear out over time, then that's just part of the cycle of getting rid of stuff to bring in new stuff 8)

My NES games I keep in a specifically made for NES games storage unit, though I actually keep that in my desk because I ran out of space in other places. N64 games are in a drawer next to below mentioned shelf.

Other games are in my small bookshelf, which worked well for 3-4 years but I'm out of space there now (I blame the X360 games). I'm going to have to figure out what to do if I want to keep buying more games...
My 1CCs so I can find the list easier myself

Those are great monitors. I have two of them. Do you have a system for dealing with discoloration when tate'd?
