Metal Gear Solid 25th Anniversary Announcements(GZ Vid up)

Post by evil_ash_xero »

Seems as if Avi Arad is going to get a MGS movie made.
Some new footage of Rising.
Some...clothes and watches...whatever
Big book of art
MGS: Social Ops for Gree

The BIG news is Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes. Open world Metal Gear Solid. A little confusion on what gen it is, but Andriasang says it's current.

Here is the PAX demo vid.

I guess that's what Project Ogre was. I really didn't think it was going to be a MGS game.
Very pleased to have a non-story driven MGS stealth game. Not that I have a problem with stories...it's just that MGS4 kinda gave us all more than we could chew.
Open world! Neat.

Anyone else love the fact that Big Boss is significantly bypassing Snake in popularity these days?

Hopefully there's a scene of him and one of the other characters drunkenly singing Barry Manilow.

I was of course waiting for MGS4 for 360, but this looks good. Hope it has multiplayer!
Yeah, I wonder whether this will include the new iteration of MGO or if they're saving that for MGS5.

I really hope carjacking isn't handled like in GTA. If you try to smash your way through a fortified stealth setpiece in a jeep there should always be a guy waiting for you with a rocket launcher. I think you should also need to sneak up on drivers to take their car.

MGS4 recently had a patch that added support for full game installation and trophies.

MGS4 and Demon's Souls were the biggest reasons I got a PS3. MGS4 honestly has an embarrassing and largely unnecessary fanservice plot, but it's still very much worth playing through. The Boss Extreme mode is an incredible challenge that forces you to study the paths through every area as you would a shmup, and your extremely limited health + rations ensures that you won't be cheesing through the game with Rambo tactics.

The problem with Peace Walker is that it was designed for co-op and nothing else. Boss fights take fucking forever if you're lone wolfing it, and the postgame Monster Hunter battles are next to impossible. It's really a game that only works properly in Japan's public transportation culture.

That's really not an accurate description of Peace Walker, at all.

The bosses are meant for co-op, yes. So, they do take way too long to beat.
The rest of the game plays normally. Watch a YouTube vid of it, and you'll see. There aren't any stages, that are bad for solo.
At least in the normal game. As for unlockable extreme stuff...maybe. But there's tons of hours of content, that's just fine for one guy.

You must not have liked ANY of the metal gears then. Even the MSX ones were wordy.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

MGS1 is a great game with cutscenes. The ones that came after it are (bad) movies with a nice stealth minigame thrown in.

You mean MGS1 was half audio book with a few cutscenes and game mixed in.

MGS 3 had more actual gameplay than 1. However, it took a while to start up.

It also had the best plot AND best gameplay of the entire series.

In the midst of this cool points chasing I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that MGS3 has the least botched character designs of the entire series. Especially the Para-Medic lady. In this regard MGS3 is the Silent Hill 4 of the series.

I loved MGS3... but I like them all. MGS4 definitely had the best gameplay though. It's funny how people love Snatcher but hate MGS for it's cutscenes. Or always act like MGS1 was somehow different. That game was 2 discs of audio more than anything else and I loved every minute of it.

There is also.. the MGS solid haters who always feel the need spam a Metal gear thread with the same cutscene BS.

WE KNOW ALL READY!! WE GET THAT YOU HATE CUTSCENES!!

Why come to a thread that concerns a serious you claim to hate over and over. If only if I had a nickle for ever wine and cry over cutscenes.

^ Snatcher doesn't really have cutscenes, it's an interactive text adventure. It's a better game than MGS imo, while Penguin Adventure is more of a game than either.

I like cutscenes already. I'm just not too hot on ones that go on for forty minutes and make about as much sense as Patrick Moore on acid.

It's not so much the existence of cutscenes that's the problem as Kojima's lack of a god damn editor. I think this kind of sums up the root issue.

Well, the cutscene thing is a problem, granted.

Part 4 was almost ALL cutscene. That was my problem. I am going through the game again now, and it's SO short. But it has like 8 hours of movie. That's insane.
I wouldn't care, since you can skip everything, but the actual game is so small. Most of it is in the first two chapters.
It just makes me wish they spent more time on making the game, rather than all the cinemas.

They've gotten rid of almost all those annoying codec calls, which were out to drive you insane in 2.

3 was just about perfect(excusing the overly long cinemas, and the surplus at them at the beginning). It was a better game than 1, and had more actual...y'know, gameplay. Part 1 had the best setting, and the best villians...and you could argue it had the best story. If they remake it(Kojipro), I'll be all for it.

As for the complaints about the next one...well, this is basically a HD Peace Walker 2. And PW didn't have a surplus of cinemas at ALL. It had a shocking amount(for MGS) of gameplay. So, I understand being wary, but I'll be more wary for MGS 5. I think this one will be more like PW. I expect it to be a step up. Rather than the little mini-bite stages, I expect a big open world. So, it should be a big improvement, actually.

So, stop your knee jerk reactions to GZ!

Something is wrong at the heart of Kojima enterprises if we're all agreeing on this almost fifteen years later. That's a long time not to get back up to speed.
