Let's all laugh at how absurd this Zero Tolerance story is

I'm not even going to weigh-in with a commentary on this one. I think the story speaks for itself.

Cliff Notes:
- 3 year old deaf child named Hunter
- Signs his name with a recognized registered sign
- School considers this a violation of their weapons policy

My first thought at thread title:
Image
In the future, mankind has made great advances in interstellar travel and subsequently colonised the Solar System. The extrasolar settlements, research outposts, mines, commercial colonies, and spacecraft and space stations throughout the Solar System are protected over by a mighty, interstellar military conglomerate named the Planet Defense Corps.

When Europa-1, the flagship of the Planet Defense Corps, is attacked by an unknown yet lethal aggressor of apparently extraterrestrial nature, the Planet Defense Corps call in Zero Tolerance, an elite strike squad of five speciality-trained commandos. A recording of the last transmission from Europe-1 reveals extensive fire damage to the warship, almost total casualties and otherworldly creatures hunting the few remaining survivors of the attack. Also, the nuclear cooling system of Europa-1 has been damaged by small arms fire, and core breach caused by overheating will destroy the starship in a matter of hours.

As a member of the Zero Tolerance squad, the player is ordered during the crisis briefing to infiltrate Europa-1 before it explodes. His mission is to completely eliminate the mysterious alien aggressor from within, and also the transformed humans of Europa-1 they have "infected", in the next few hours to erase all evidence of the attack and the alien intruders.

I think there's a lot more to this story we're not getting. It smacks of sensationalist yellow journalism.

The school says they never tried to get the kid to change his signature, but they could just be covering their asses.

Anyway, I try to ignore news stories like this, because they don't mean shit compared to the political/economic/environmental/technological/foreign policy/war/etc. issues that really matter.

I have to a gree a bit with Op. I always get the feeling on stories like this that there's another side we're not hearing. Certainly if the situation is as the article says, that's complete BS and should be a no-brainer to let the kid sign his name however he likes. But the whole article has an air of sensationalism to it that makes it hard for me to believe we're getting the whole story.

First thought was also the Genesis game. Second thought was that maybe njiska was linking to The Truth About Guns. Hmm...pretty close! Was I right? They do have it linked.

I like this story that they link:

It has been reported by more than one media outlet in roughly the same way, but what I find truly interesting is that this story is "sensationalist yellow journalism" to you, yet the root argument is essentially the same as that of the Jeremy Lin/ESPN debacle that some people posting in this thread certainly were supportive of. Something was said/signed that violates a policy (racial tolerance is a policy) and the reaction is one of offense, either stupid white people (Lin case) or the school. In both cases is demonstrates a culture where no benefit of the doubt is given and that is a concern when that same culture applies that mindset to Politics/Economics/Environmental decision/Technological Advancement/Foriegn Policy/Wars/etc. As has been demonstrated numerous times by both sides of the political spectrum.

I'm willing to give the school the benefit of the doubt that this is being reported in an unfair manner that is completely out of proportion, but it is in line with many, many other zero tolerance stories from the US. And that really is the root issue worth discussing. The culture of Zero Tolerance and how mind-boggling bad a policy it is in any situation.

Well, I'm getting a laugh out of this thread now! Gotta love that cheesy strings + harmonica intro music.

Wait, what? The ship is going to explode and destroy everything on board ... so you have to go there and kill everyone first? Why yes, absurd story is absurd.

Christ that game was a piece of shit. An internet broken nose awaits anyone who plays the "good for its time" card, y'hear? Good for its time like polio.

I know :( It's a shame, because it seems like there's not that much stopping the Genesis from playing a decent Wolfenstein-like 3d game. Especially look at the engine in Toy Story-- amazing!

Of course Ketsui cribbed from it.

BIL, you gonna come deliver that broken nose? "Good for its time." Waitin' for ya!

(I tried out Beyond Zero Tolerance again lately, and oh god is that a terrible game. It's been a few years longer since I played the original so I don't remember it exactly. The Duke Nukem "port" by Tec-Toy also looks pretty bad. I'll have to check out Toy Story.)

Not you Ed, your handsome and curiously Bill Rizer-like eface must never be harmed. ;-; Even if Zero Tolerance was a gonorrhea & HIV burrito in 1994 and has only festered in the baking sun of subsequent years. But I do concede: when I want to play an FPS as characters who've had both ankles shattered and their genitalia superglued to their kneecaps, I know ZT will deliver.

ZT VET PROTIP: don't look at enemies and they won't see you! I'm serious.

Haha, it's true, ZT's enemies are indeed that stupid. Gotta love that elevator though. HOLY SHIT SOMETHING IS MOVING IN THE THIRD DIMENSION!

BZT is filled with not enough ammo and too many ugly enemies. Some kind of interesting art design but it's offset by everything else.
