Sengoku Blade - which version?

Post by Spyke »

Hi,

Just wondering whether there are any differences between the PS2 Pal and Japanese Saturn versions of this game? Both are tricky enough to find but I don't mind holding out to get the better version - if there's a clear winner...

Thanks!

Saturn version is 240p and has no lag. PS2 version is 480i and has at least a frame or two of extra lag due to the emulation. Winner: Saturn :)

Hmm... old style lo-res and smooth play? Yes, Saturn sounds nice. Thanks. So far... ;)

The Saturn version (if I recall correctly) also has Marion from Gunbird as a secret character, and comes with a second disc full of fan art and the like.

The PS2 edition is basically a straight emulation of the arcade version; serviceable and probably cheaper than its Saturn equivalent, though the latter is generally considered the "primo" purchase if you can manage it.

I would say the saturn version since many have said the ps2 version has lag.

I've never gotten noticeable lag in the PS2 version, at least through the first loop and into through the second. Using a CRT, stock NTSCJ PS2 and a wired pad if it makes any difference. I've only kept the SS one for the resolution.

how do the ports handle the region differences of the PCB? I think the later stage forced a restart on death in Japan?

IIRC, both go by the Japanese board's rules - continuing after a game over in the later stages will restart that stage.

I haven't noticed any input lag on the PS2 version on the little time I had with it.

The PS2 version also lets you fix stage order, which is very helpful. IDK if the Saturn version also has that feature.
