OK, so what is left for this gen?

Post by evil_ash_xero »

Still trying to flesh out my PS3 and Xbox collections to "not that bad" status. Getting a little tight here at the end. Not entirely sure when the next get is coming(2013 or so). So, we don't have long to get a few more kickin' titles out.

I've noticed that some of the best games come out at the end...I certainly HOPE that's the case here, since I need a few more to actually not be saddened by my collections for these systems(not counting my Xbox's shumps, obviously).

SO...what games are you guys looking forward to? Rumored or set in stone.

I've racked my brain a bit, and have come up with some interesting morsels.

The Last Guardian
: I still have hope for this coming out, although I'm not expecting it to be announced soon. I'm quite sure it will be good, but it could always get scrapped before release.

Zone Of The Enders 3: Has been confirmed by Kojima, but not really sure if it's meant for this gen or next. It would be kind of weird that they are having a collection coming out this fall, and then announce this...and then wait to put it onto a completely different gen. Could happen though.
EDIT: This is only in pre-production. No way it's coming out this gen. :(

Metal Gear Rising: Big hopes on this one. Unless that guy that worked under Kamiya sucks, this game should rock. Maybe it will make up for Ninja Gaiden 3 and DMC(Blah!). Also, hopefully this will heal the pain of knowing that Kamiya's next game(Project P-100) is coming out on the Wii U. :x

Project Zwei(working title): Shinji Mikami's new "survival horror game", and will be the last game he directs(so he says). He's returning to the genre because he says it's what he's best at, and wants it to live up to expectations. No dates or anything are set in stone(other than 2013).

Max Anarchy(Anarchy Reigns): This is out, and I'll know more about it tomorrow. Always good to get a Platinum game. Who knows if this will make it to U.S. shores though.

Devil's Third: AH....this one may not come to pass. Itagaki's follow up to Ninja Gaiden II. Unfortunately, as with a lot of his "we'll start a new company!" counterparts, they don't seem to fully take into account how slow this shit can take. Also, THQ just dropped him, since they're having difficulties. So, will this show back up? I hope it does. Even if it's by Sega.

Crimson Dragon: This could be one bitter pill to swallow. If they don't add controller support, or the Kinect set up doesn't work amazingly well, I don't see myself getting this. But a spiritual follow up to Panzer? That's hard to pass up....without a heavy heart.

Project Ogre(working title): Kojima's "open world" game, that's not a cinematic experience. Kind of his take on Skyrim or something. They've been releasing tidbits about it, but no idea on if this is coming out this gen or next. I'm betting next, sadly.

I would also like to chime in the possibility of RE 6 being good. I'm not expecting much....but I hope to be very wrong. God of War 4 is off the table for me, since it's just a prequel, and it plays just like the other ones. Time to move on guys.

And there's MY list of stuff. Some of that may not even come about, or not for this gen. It's a bit up in the air. But that's what has me interested in this gen for now. I would really hope these all come out and rock my socks off, and then I can say "this gen...it was alright...kinda".

EDIT: Seems Devil's Third got a new partner, and Itagaki got the rights back. So, hopefully it comes to fruition. http://www.siliconera.com/2012/07/20/va ... developer/

Well, we still have to wait for Microsoft and Sony to at least properly announce their next-gen systems to even think this one is over for them.

Also, I keep thinking of this gen as the "next-gen" one, haha.

It's basically over for MS and Sony.

Sony's new machine is essentially a PC (confirmed).

MS's new machine is most likely essentially a PC as well, if that recently leak is to be believed.

Nintendo are the only ones actually making a real console for this next generation, it seems.

My PC should be good up to the end of the current gen but it's all looking at bit sparse apart from Resi 6, which might make it for xmas.

I'd really hoped Wii U would be bringing exciting things but it's not thus far, apart from Aliens: Colonial Marines which a) has the potential to go royally tits up b) hit PC bargain prices first anyway.

I tend to buy consoles on their way out or when they are history already, but with this gen I just can't be bothered. Almost everything I'm interested in is on the PC as well and I surely could use a new PC.
Having said that... Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance looks promising and I do suck for those TPP slashers from Japan. I also hope Wii is going to fare well for a little bit longer, but nothing announced comes to mind.

Some people are speculating that Gran Turismo 6 may come before the PS4. Most of the assets from GT5 will be used to make GT6 so it'll take less time to develop. And Yamauchi said development started right after GT5 was released (November 2010).

If it does come out, it'll be a much more polished game than GT5, so I'm looking forward to it.

Additions to your list for current-gen consoles:

Dragon's Crown (PS3/Vita): Vanillaware's spiritual successor to Capcom's Dungeons & Dragons arcade beatemup series, with 4-player online, cross-platform co-op.

Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut (PS3): A graphical upgrade and expansion of the cult classic Twin Peaks-inspired action adventure, with added PS Move support.

Tokitowa (PS3): Action RPG where all characters are digital anime cels placed in 3D environments.

The Witch and the Hundred Knights (PS3): Overhead action RPG from Nippon Ichi with Pikmin-like mechanics.

Ginga Force (360): Qute's second shmup after Eschatos, featuring an extensive customization system.

Killer Is Dead (PS3/360): Mysterious new project from Suda51/Grasshopper. Judging from the title and concept art, it could be a spiritual sequel to Killer7.

Crimson Dragon is going to be rendered worthless by the Kinect just like the new Steel Battalion, I fear.

Valkyria Chronicles III is getting a fan translation.

Final Fantasy Verus XIII hasn't been canceled yet.

Watch Dogs is supposedly coming this generation.

That (and some stuff already mentioned) is really all I care about that's left of this generation.

If new localized releases count, then Phantom Breaker (spiritual sequel to the Asuka 120% series, by the remnants of Fill in Cafe) is coming to the US sometime in October. It's gotten a lot of flak for its unorthodox controls and generic animu characters, but I've played the demo and I think it's pretty cool.

And if anyone really still cares, Final Fantasy XIV is getting a completely overhauled relaunch on PC/PS3 at some point. That shit tanked worse than Old Republic when it first started.

Let's hope the date finally sticks...it was originally slated for April. Looks like it's gunning for Otomedius Excellent's record. :P

Yeah, I don't know what's going on with Phantom Breaker. They already tried to reassure people on Facebook that a previous date would be final, then they delayed it again anyway. People have speculated that Funimation doesn't want it to release in the US before the Steins;Gate anime does, since Kurisu Makise is an unlockable character.

They also still have to fix a grievous typo on the front page of the site.

Keep dreaming.

Maybe as a NESiCA rerelease or iOS port, but that'll be it.

Also, "ZOE3" is actually known as "Enders Project" right now. I don't think it'll ever be called ZOE3, seeing as how it's a prequel/reboot set thousands of years before the other games.

Yeah, but this is Kojima Productions and MGS 3 was also a prequel, so I wouldn't completely rule the possibility out.

Mikami's working on a horror game - that could be next gen though (in fact it probably is). EDIT: Whoops, that was in the OP. Sorry.
Sega All-Stars Racing 2 looks pretty fun.
Halo 4 looks good.
There's that new God of War (but I hate the series, and adding multiplayer is a bit of a joke.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
But mostly, yeah, people are gearing up for next gen. This one has lasted a long time and making next gen games is going to take longer than ever.

I had no idea that Phantom Brave was related to Asuka 120%. Now I'm pretty pumped. At first I was afraid it was another Arcana Heart/Blazblue/Guillty Gear kind of flashy, air combo fighter. I'm glad they're sticking to the basics.

Ugh...cannot wait for Dragon's Crown.

I bet we'll see another round of PS3/360 projects from the smaller studios (Grasshopper Manufacture, Vanillaware, Gust, etc.), beyond the ones currently announced. I can't see them just throwing away their existing devkits and engine code in 2013 when some of them just hopped onto this gen in the past ~2-3 years.

Link on Sony? I haven't heard shit regarding them so far. MS, I'm pretty sure that leak is to be believed. Mind you, they pretty much made essentially a PC with the first Xbox, although I'm not sure if their success there was because of or despite it.

And the Wii U's hardware is pretty much "this gen, with a little boost maybe".
Hopefully the damn thing won't collect as much dust as my Wii does, in terms of few game releases. The Wii suffered because it was simply a Gamecube, with a little boost. Making something about on par with the 360/PS3 with only a little boost isn't going to help.

Well, one can dream...

Ubisoft once said there is no DLC planned for Child of Eden but they will use the engine in a future game.

The developer of Shadow Complex said, the question is not IF there will be a sequel, the only question is WHEN they will make it.

And G.Rev are aware that there is a high demand for Border Down HD, they are certainly considering it.

I got the impression it was for current gen. I hope so anyway.
It's announced and they're showing concept art. It would seem a bit soon to do that for systems that may not be out until late 2013 at earliest. Unless it's Wii U, of course.

I've talked about this at length before, but Cave's given several not-so-subtle indications that they're finished with current gen consoles. It's quite likely that their dire financial reports and the moribund Japanese 360 market have caused them to enter into a period of transitioning away from the arcade and console markets, and scaling back to become a mobile/social-only developer. The PS3 is not a viable option due to Sony's aspect ratio restrictions, and the already poor sales of G.Rev's PS3 ports. I don't think the recent NESiCA release of Akai Katana Shin is necessarily indicative of future arcade games or ports, it may have simply been an easy option for a "we need money, and fast" scheme. Just like the addition of pay-to-win DLC to their iOS ports.
I had no idea that Phantom Brave was related to Asuka 120%. Now I'm pretty pumped. At first I was afraid it was another Arcana Heart/Blazblue/Guillty Gear kind of flashy, air combo fighter. I'm glad they're sticking to the basics.
It's Breaker, "Phantom Brave" is a NIS SRPG. But yeah, developer Delta Factory is made up of ex-Fill in Cafe staff, and the game shares many similarities to Asuka. Specials are done Smash Bros. style, which is certainly a bold move for a traditional 2D fighter. It is very combo-heavy, but combos are easy to pull off and allow for improvisation.
they also still have to make the game good on any level

...then again, maybe they don't...
Agarest is a shitty game, but it has nothing to do with 5pb or Delta Factory.
Chaos Code
Hasn't been announced for a home port as far as I know, though one is likely. You also forgot about French Bread's Under Night In-Birth.
Shin Megami Tensei IV for 3DS.
It really blows that this was moved from the PS3. There's supposedly a Vita SMT in development, but I have a feeling that will end up as vaporware.
