STGT'12 Week 2 Voting: Toaplan Week

Post by dex »

The voting process is simple: if you're a captain, you can send me the vote using a Private Message. If you aren't a captain, do not send me a vote.

The choices for this week are:
  • Batsugun (Normal)
  • Hishouzame (limited to two loops)
  • V-V
The ballot is secret. You have until 11:59 PM GMT of the 5th to send me your votes.

Where'd OutZone go?

Oh well, I guess any of these will be fine. Hishou Zame's plane is REALLY slow, so take that into account. I could play via PCB though!

Thinking Batsugun may win, but I really hope Fire Shark wins instead. We need something antiquated to cancel out Too Close For Comfort week.

V-V sucks. Let's play Grindstormer.

Also, bah, was hoping this would be CAVE week so we could get it over and done with :(

Should've put Fire Shark instead of Hishouzame.

In an attempt to once again sway the votes, I think people should vote for Hishouzame.

In the interests of continuing my nemesising of sik, I suggest people vote for not-hishouzame.

Give V-V your vote, guys. Need convincing? Here's the game's plot:
It is about this horrifically hard video game that has been released in the year 2210. This video game, also called V-Five, takes its victims and pulls them in while making them hopelessly addicted like druggies in an opium house. The government sends in an agent, presumably the player, to investigate this evil video game to save its victims by beating the game. The arcade cabinet or cartridge supposedly contains this evil game from the future and you, the player, has supposedly been told by the government to beat this game.
I mean, do you want this evil mind-destroying virus to just run wild forever? We must stop it and free its slaves!

Also, Gradius powerup bar in a vert.

STGT'12 Week 2: Shot management

V-Five sounds fantastic with the sound now, though.

Give Hishouzame your vote, guys. Need convincing? Here's how the game is awesome:
It is about an American pilot fighting the Japanese in World War II. You fight kamikaze planes and giant battleships. Also it was developed by Japanese.
I mean, do you want this evil harbor-bombing emperor to just run wild forever? We must stop him and free his citizens!

Also, no Gradius powerup bar.

Don't forget there's a bomb. Strangely, no carried bomb stock, so continuous bomb bonuses hooray (unless they stop awarding bombs in some late loop). Also awesome cinematic style levels. Gotta love the first time you see the desert.

Hishou Zame is slow, and you can easily run out of shots due to the strict onscreen shot limit (even without autofire, especially if you're in the bottom half of the screen), so it will flex different shmup skills than other games where you can dodge everything with ease and shoot without regrets.

V-Five is a game where you have to wiggle the screen up and down to adjust spread shot. That kind of thing never really caught on with me. Still cool to have though, and you force your way through plenty of stuff with the dense shot.

Batsugun is a great game, just not for scoring. It is an abysmal game for competitive score-play.

Indeed. Pretty much the entire score of the game comes from a single milking trick and this is not an exaggeration.

It's also a game where you will never use the spread shot outside of one boss.
