Shooting Game Tournament 2012 is a friendly score competition among users of shmups.com. The score validation works like in the hi-score threads. You just play the game on PCB, emulator or any console port and post your score which you don't need to prove. (However if you are a troll or have a questionable reputation, be prepared to be asked for snapshots or other forms of verification.) ANYONE CAN JOIN!

Starting Date: Monday, July 30th, 2012!

Playing Week #1: July 30th - August 6th,
Playing Week #2: August 6th - August 13th,
Playing Week #3: August 13th - August 20th,
Playing Week #4: August 20th - August 27th,
Playing Week #5: August 27th - September 3rd. (This puts it RIGHT before a standard school year begins, since the first two days of September are the weekend)

Playing weeks will start (and, of course, end), as per usual, at 4:00 AM GMT (which is Midnight EDT).

Rules

Players and their Teams

All players will be divided into teams. Every team consists of a minimum of 5 players to a maximum of 7 players. Each week, every team member can play, but only the best 3 scores of a team will count for the overall rankings (an individual ranking high score table will be displayed as well). However, members of the team with lower scores still have their scores counted on the scoreboard and can bump down scores from other teams. Having a larger team is optimal in case any issues arise, such as a member being unable to play during a week.

Team Captains

Every team will have a captain. Preferably, the teammates will agree on their team captain on their own. Otherwise, a team vote may be enforced to choose the team captain. The captain will simply be in charge of organizing and keeping an eye on his team - reminding players who didn't play yet, or to encourage strategy talk between team members. Don't try to be the captain because it sounds so cool (this isn't school), but rather because you are dependable and would like to invest time and effort to hold your team together. In addition, this year, the captain is in charge of exercising their team's right to vote (more on that in the next section) - so this is a rather important position!

Game Selection

This year, instead of the choice by a dictator or a politburo from last three years, I will give you back the power to choose: voting makes a reappearance. The voting will be done by team captains only, and will take place for 48 hours before the week begins, starting at Midnight GMT two days before and ending Midnight GMT on the week beginning day. The game choices will be provided a little earlier, so you can have more time to make your decision before voting. Each week will have three choices. The week themes will be revealed before the first week of registrations ends.

In the event of a voting tie, I reserve the right to settle it by way of coin toss.

How can I join? Just hit the quote button on the 2nd post of this thread and fill the form out. And don't worry if you are completely new, everyone who wants to play can join.

What decides what team I am on? You may either join one of the existing teams, or you may create your own team. You may also just fill out the entry form without specifying a team and get randomly invited into one team or put into a team set up by regionals.

Player Entry Form Explained

Username: username of player entry
(You can register for other players, with their permission.)

Desired Team: team name
(You can also enter a new team name if you would like to create a new team. If you do not care which team you are on, leave this blank.)

Team Captain Vote: username of somebody on your desired team
(You can nominate yourself or someone else on your team, see the rules above for the explanation on Captains.)

Desired Team Registration Status: Open / Private / -

This is more for people creating a team that isn't in the tournament yet. If your team has already been created, just fill it in with the decision your captain/team has made about it, or leave it blank. If you are not signing up on a team initially, then you may also leave this blank.

If you do not care, I will assume that you want your team put as open.

If you wish to join a closed/private team, please PM their Captain or one of their members. You can tell if a team is open or private by looking next to their name.

Open = You don't care who else joins your team.
Closed/Private = You or your team members wish to select who joins or does not join your team when they request. If someone you didn't request to join your team joins, the captain must inform me.

Region: country name
(If you are in the United States, please indicate if you represent East, Central, West, Alaska/Hawaii, etc.)

Expected # Week Participation: All Weeks / 3-4 Weeks / 1-2 Weeks / ?
Please only select from the listings given and try to be give your best expectation. This field is more important for 'free agents' (people who don't specify a team), since when free agents are assigned to teams, I will write an algorithm to try to make the free agent teams have somewhat similar participation. That said, even if you aren't a free agent, such info might be useful for statistical purposes, or for other members of your team, so go ahead with filling it in.
