Hm..

I prefer the music in the earlier Street Fighter II games, particularly SFII and Super SFII. That was back when characters had individual themes with memorable melodies.

The music in the Samurai Shodown series is nice, too.

Another vote for Street Fighter II, particularly the CPS tunes (better sounding than CPS-II, I feel).

I deeply recommend the Street Fighter Tribute CD on the strength. Some of the best game music ever, arranged by some of the best game music composers. I've had Yuzo Koshiro's rendition of M.Bison theme stuck in my head for months now.

There's some great King of Fighters/SNK tunes, but I can't recall the names or exactly which ones they came from. Guilty Gear X/XX OST is quite naturally up near the tops as well.

Out of those three choices? Third Strike has that god-awful rap on the menu screens. CvsS 2 has a bunch of shitty smooth jazz that's almost as bad as Marvel vs Capcom 2 (Take me for a ride!).

In that regard I gotta go Vampire.

Definitely either SFII Champion or KoF '98. Guilty Gear X was alright... but very few songs stuck in my head. It topped the rest of the series at least. I didn't find any of the poll choices to have memorable music, I'm afraid.

Awe of She, Feel a Fear, Pillars of the Underworld are great just to name a few. I also have third strike's ost, so as it's in the poll, I voted for it. Still, the kor/eng GGXX's have the best music by far.

I don't like any of the three choices. Battle Arena Toshinden had the best fighter soundtrack I can think of. Good call with GGX# too, and Samurai Shodown is also good.

Played CVS2 for the first time today, holy shit the music blows. Moogs told me it was crappy techno before, I didn't know it was going to be this bad.

Far as 3D fighters go, I remember really diggin' Tekken Tag Tournament's soundtrack. Tobal had some good stuff too.

The only tracks I like in Third Strike are the Brazil stages, Makoto and Ibuki's. Everything else is meh, just like the backgrounds.

Streets of Rage 2's music seems very influenced by the music from John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13. Play Streets of Rage 2 and then watch the movie - it's eerie.

I've got an awesome live soundtrack CD to this which came with the official Nintendo magazine ages ago.

I also forgot just how good all of the Guilty Gear soundtracks are.

Oh I love the Guile rendition by Motoaki Furukawa. I actually like the 3rd Strike soundtrack a lot too. Ken/Alex stage is my favorite. But Street Fighter II...that game just got everything right!
