Doesn't mean much really, but thought it might put some smiles on peoples faces.

The X360 is getting a lot of Japanese developer support, but not a lot of consumer interest. Then again, the first few months of the system's life in Japan will be what determines the interest - the Xbox 1 was a failure in Japan, so the current lack of enthusiasm is to be expected.
At any rate, glad to hear Treasure's on board. I'm looking forward to seeing what they make.

The companies signing up for 360 are doing it for money to make PlayStation 3 games.

Also possibly of interest to shmuppers is that G.REV is supposed to be on board for the X360! The title of the game they're doing for it isw yet unknown.
I sure hope this doesn't mean there won't be a Senko port for the DC...
Maybe it's Under Defeat?
In any case my antipathy against all stuff Microsoft may not be strong enough once there'll be some bad ass shmups on the system... then again they'd have to be REALLY ACE to pursuade me into buying a M$ console...

Considering how close Sega and Microsoft have gotten lately (and the fact that they're making arcade games with 360-based hardware), I don't think it's a huge leap to assume that VF5 will be on the 360.
And why is it so hard to believe Treasure would make a game for an American system? Methinks Treasure's more obsessive fanbase cares more about that than members of Treasure themselves do. And Microsoft has been going nuts trying to drum up Japanese support however they can.
By the way, u$ing a dollar $ign in place of "s" look$ really ridiculou$ and trite, and $hould be left on $la$hdot and other $uch place$. It reek$ of a fourteen year old'$ blog talking about "big bu$ine$$" and $uch, and doe$n't do much for credibility.

yeah OR they're doing 360 stuff because being a much more vanilla architecture it is easier to develop for, especially if you plan on later porting to say PC, making games less expensive to churnout and, combined with a sizeable and increasing userbase, less risky.judesalmon wrote:The companies signing up for 360 are doing it for money to make PlayStation 3 games.
I imagine Japanese developers are supporting the 360 because the PS3 is going to be expensive as all hell.
Also, now that Microsoft has a 1st party consisting of the creator of Final Fantasy, and people who worked on NiGHTS and Panzer Dragoon, I think they may have a better run in Japan.

Japanese companies can no longer ignore the Western markets, as they are bigger than the Japanese market. Also, Treasure has a lot of Western fans, so developing for Xbox 360 will double the companies' user base.
However, everyone knows Sony will dominate the next generation, so companies are going to want to make games for that no matter what - money made on 360 games will fund a lot of PS3 development.

Everyone knows Sony will dominate the console market? Really, do you happen to know a time traveler that somehow trusts you with this information? Does his name happen to be "everyone?"
Seriously I can't tell who will dominate the next console race. Microsoft has some serious power on their side but an early launch might not be enough for them to take it all home. Sony is launching later and they might have some power in their console. Then again Ken Kutaragi might just sell you a 400 dollar tin can on his way to the looney bin.
Now no one knows what Nintendo has in store. They might just make a surprise come back and school everyone. You never know...

They're not really any closer now than they were when VF4 came out on the PS2. They will put it out on whichever machine has the biggest user base in Japan. The US side of things will be such a HUGE factor against this series. it's just dead in the states, which is fucked up b/c it's so intense, deep, fun, and all around wicked. I shutter when I think of how much money I put into VF4, Evo, and FT in the arcades. Thosuands over a couple of years, easily.sethsez wrote:Considering how close Sega and Microsoft have gotten lately (and the fact that they're making arcade games with 360-based hardware), I don't think it's a huge leap to assume that VF5 will be on the 360.
This is not entirely true... or rather misleading I should say. While the numbers are in the Americans favor (not per capita though, AFAIK) the Japanese companies have a HUGE advantage in that they can play both markets. The US companies can't, b/c they have almost zero franchises that are huge sellers in both regions. Japaense don't have a ton, but they have way more than the western developers. People that are buying these world-wide best sellers (MGS, Biohazard, Zelda, Mario, FF, DMC etc.) in both markets are really the only people the JPN companies can target. The rest of the games the Americans are buying? FPS's and western-style RPGs that the Japanese just don't develop.... and apparently aren't going to start developing anytime soon. The real winners of the American market are Konami, Capcom, Nintendo, etc. that have a decent library in both regions. Japan is still home to the small business, and there will always be numerous microdev houses that keep their games in Japan, and will survive doing so. A case in point is Treasure -- they are nitche, even in Japan. The don't seem to give a shit if their games go overseas or not.Japanese companies can no longer ignore the Western markets, as they are bigger than the Japanese market.

Masato Maegawa has specifically pointed out that they would not be where they are without overseas fans. He knows that they have more fans worldwide than just in Japan. I'm sure he wishes all his games could played everywhere, but it just isn't in the cards. I mean if you list the games that weren't brought over (which isn't that many out of their entire catalog), you can pretty much state why on each one.
The reason VF won't do well here is because fighters are dead, it is sad when I think of the SF2 days ~_~. There are three people in Wisconsin who play Third Strike.

Isnt' Tekken pretty smokin' hot in the US? DOA and Soul Calibur sell well too, no? Even if they don't, I think VF is way more of a see-saw. A perfect example of huge in Japan, and dead in the water just about everywhere else. The reason VF won't do well here is because fighters are dead, it is sad when I think of the SF2 days ~_~.

Well Namco have confirmed Ridge Racer 360.

Looks very much like 360 will definately take a market share in Japan this time around. So its likely that because Namco, Capcom et al are on the bandwagon, treasure see it as a low risk proposition also.

I'm not sold unless all these Japanese companies, like Treasure, develop for the American market, as well as the Japanese one, AND the leaked 360 Sonic and After Burner games are actually out on store shelves. An American XBOX 360's gonna be expensive enough; there's no way I'd shell out for a Japanese one. Not with all the other import gaming goodness out there!

That's just it though, Microsoft may well fill those loopholes with the 360, just like Sony did with the PS1, when they released the PS2.sethsez wrote:If the 360 has enough loopholes like the Xbox did, then there'll be no need to buy a Japanese one. The Xbox is brain-dead easy to mod.
But here's hoping they don't!
