Help! High scores not being recorded in X360 Cave games...
So this has kind of been pissing me off, and I would like to get it figured out before I get an unrepeatable high score... Maybe someone could help.
The problem is this. I've noticed that upon completing a run of espgaluda 2, it won't save my score, or even offer to save my replay. I don't know the conditions in which it happens but I've noticed it happens more and more often. And not just in espgaluda 2 but this has also happened to me in deathsmiles as well. I'm guessing all of the cave games probably have this 'bug"
I will note that I usually don't choose to play for an online score. And I sometimes just restart my game if I'm not satisfied with my level1 play. What I really can't get is why it doesn't even let me save local scores.
This hasn't bothered me much yet because most of my plays are for practice, but like today for instance I decided to try the novice version of esp2 just to see what kind of score I could get and I managed a no miss, 6 lives and a score of over 200,000,000 (I say over because it of course didn't record it, so that's all I know). I know it's an easy mode but I still played a pretty decent game and at least wanted the record of it happening.
Any guesses what this is all about?
PS> I do notice my scores are registering IN-GAME as 'high score' (if I got one) but sure enough this doesn't translate to the scoreboard because I can't even input my name at the end.

Are you playing on default settings?

Never use Restart, even on the first stage.
Why we still don't have proper restarts in Cave games, I don't know.

This is my biggest grievance with Cave's ports. Will they ever learn how convenient quick restarts are? Probably not.Chaos Phoenixma wrote:Never use Restart, even on the first stage.

They most likely won't be in Mushi HD, either. Asada's handling it, and he's been recycling the shitty interfaces since Deathsmiles.iconoclast wrote:This is my biggest grievance with Cave's ports. Ketsui's port is pretty much the best port on 360.
Re: Help! High scores not being recorded in X360 Cave games...
It takes about 30 seconds to restart a run from the title screen. Hardly a big deal.
200m is nothing BTW.

Better off just ignoring him when he's full shmup.Kaiser wrote:You are an asshole. That's not how you should tell him that he should improve.Gus wrote:200m is nothing BTW.

It's okay, it means little coming from someone who is good at Futari and absolutely no other shooting game in the history of this genre.
Re: Help! High scores not being recorded in X360 Cave games...
Yeah, it's not like I set the westen record in Espgaluda 2 last week or anything.
Re: Help! High scores not being recorded in X360 Cave games...
Seriously man, I respect your skill as a player but you've gotta stop with this bitching people out over nothing.
Seriously, you're just looking like a plank right now. Take it from me, I know a lot about making myself look like an idiot on the internet.

Yeah, I may have been blunt in how I worded but at the end of the day all I'm saying it's not some huge loss to not have a record of that run. Get over it and get better.

You are dumb, it may not be a huge loss to you, but it may be a huge loss to him because it could have been a serious record for him.Gus wrote:Yeah, I may have been blunt in how I worded but at the end of the day all I'm saying it's not some huge loss to not have a record of that run. I have western top scores too. Whoop. Imaginary achievements by paper because Japan is moon land with moon powers. Get over it and get better.Gus wrote:Yeah, I may have been blunt in how I worded but at the end of the day all I'm saying it's not some huge loss to not have a record of that run. What you think of his score is actually inappropriate, he's asking for help concerning an entirely different matter, not asking someone to scrutinise their progress.
Re: Help! High scores not being recorded in X360 Cave games...
While I may not have western top scores, I do have some records on my belt that took a lot of effort. Did people tell me my scores are shit in literal sense? No, did they tell me to improve? Heck yes. Thanks to them I became a better player as much as I do not score much. So why not tell him politely to improve? He'll be a better player than when you tell him he's shit when he is not. Every player is a novice when he started out, that includes you Gus. You were a novice too when you started playing shmups in general. So don't forget that.Elixir wrote:I have western top scores too. good job gus, you probably scared him away
Re: Help! High scores not being recorded in X360 Cave games...
The Japan quote is kind of funny as I've gone out of my way in the past to say that I'm not that great and yeah, I actually am actively working on getting better. On a side note I think there's a very clear distinction between a few doujin records by a guy who seems to spend most of his time playing dull RPGs and collecting dolls and a few arcade records by a guy who lives, breathes, eats, and sleep this genre.Kaiser wrote:While I may not have western top scores, I do have some records on my belt that took a lot of effort. The score thing was really just a minor point that I think has gotten way blown out of proportion. The truth is I don't give a fuck if he improves nor do I expect him to. I was simply saying that a replay of a 200m score isn't something worth losing sleep over. Would it have made you people a little happier if I had just worded it more like "200m ain't that special anyway so don't worry having a record of it. I'm sure you can do better."?

Gus -> not being an asshole

Re: Help! High scores not being recorded in X360 Cave games...
Saving and reviewing your own replays - even of low scores in a novice mode - could be used to identify weak points in a run and possibly improve them if the player cares enough. They're definitely not worthless because everyone has to start somewhere. inb4superplays
To echo the answer to the original question: It sounds like you used the Restart option instead of starting over through the main menu.

Re: Help! High scores not being recorded in X360 Cave games...
Heh, you didn't like my response, did you. That's why you thought it'd be snarky to give me the third degree in return. Well, that's exactly what you did to the original poster in this thread. Skill level doesn't somehow magically overrule common sense.Gus wrote:The Japan quote is kind of funny as I've gone out of my way in the past to say that I'm not that great and yeah, I actually am actively working on getting better. Place yourself on whatever imaginary pedestal you wish, you can say what you like.
Might I recommend cave-stg? Since EOJ--I mean, "sdk", would absolutely love your dedication to this shooting game genre.Gus wrote:Futari for me. Those vids of Ultra mode Larsa and Spiritual Larsa were pretty much my first exposure to the genre outside of some awful Gradius and Thunder Force games so it was like a dream come true to finally play it.
No. You're actually making this worse, lol. The score isn't special to you and means nothing to you. The bleedingly obvious solution is to ignore his score since his score is not what this thread is about. And don't play this off as a minor point, acting like you're above everyone else is evidently a common trait.Gus wrote:The score thing was really just a minor point that I think has gotten way blown out of proportion. Gus, Elixir - Stop trying to get the last word in. You two bickering isn't helping the OP.
