I just remembered that I have some old mechanical toys made by Sega between 1987 and 1989. I dug them out and took some photos here.
They're called Pocket Power, and are a variety of different-themed toys set inside a credit-card-sized plastic frame.
Has anyone else seen these? Any idea what they're worth?
I couldn't find anything like them on eBay, and information on the web are scarce too, this is all I could find.
I remember thinking these were really cool. Sega are absolute genius, you should see some of the variety here.
I have the Speedboat, which is a wind-up toy that runs on wheels if you put it on a solid surface, but it also floats and has a propellor for use in water. This was the last one I got.
The Off-road car features a spring-loaded launch ramp and some pylons.
The superbike has a heavy metal rear wheel, you spin it by pulling on a toothy plastic strip, and it goes FAST.
The jet plane is awesome, same activation as the superbike but has a big propellor instead of the heavy wheel.
The army cannon thing is very cool, it actually doubles as a stationery set. The cannon has a ball-point pen on the end, the cannon shells are erasers, the grenade is a pencil sharpener, the turret is a protractor, and there is a ruler/stencil inside the frame. I think this is the first one I ever received.
The skeleton glows in the dark and comes with weapons and armour.
I used to have a helicopter (vertical version of the jet plane) but it broke..
There were other cool ones that I remember seeing on the back of the packaging, like spring-loaded BB guns and stuff. The variety was mind-boggling!
Ah, the memories.... I would be a happy boy if Sega resumed production on these.

I always wanted one of the motorcycles, but never got one. That was probably the year all of my chores went to paying off a window I broke :)

Haha what a great show...nothing like seeing the looks on those peoples faces when they find out thier old grandparents gun was used in the civil war or something.Specineff wrote:Don't ever sell them. If Sega ceases to exist, these things can fetch high value in Roadshow Antiques on PBS, 20 years from now.
I think my friend may have had the helicopter one... it looks mighty familiar
