Can someone explain the proper way to increase your shot frequency in Pink Sweets? Supposedly, it works by just rapidly tapping the A button. I've done this over and over, but for the life of me, no matter how quickly I press the button, it doesn't increase.

Is there some other requirement for this? Do you have to kill a string of enemies while also rapidly tapping the A button? I've noticed that I can get it up to 15 with Shasta right at the start in Arcade mode, but it only seems to increase right at that spot when I'm shooting the initial first wave of enemies. It just refuses to increase after that, no matter how quickly I press A.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You just need to mash A.

I can see this being difficult with the 360 pad; but on an arcade stick i just repeatedly tap with my index and middle finger.

Just tap like a madman. I've done #30 a couple of times with a regular controller.

One little trick is to mash the button when there's a slowdown.

It does. For easy #30 fire you can just set autofire as you select your ship and by the time the first enemies in the game spawn you'll have #30.

Works on my SF4 TE stick anyway.

Kind of trying to not shell out $60 to earn one Achievement here. If someone could post a video of them raising the frequency to 30 without auto fire, that would be great.

On a related note, and I'm pretty sure it does since it totally should, but I can't quite tell and there's no visual indication...the shot frequency does increase how fast Shasta's lasers do damage, right? I've been experimenting with using 12 or 15 out of the gate to make getting Special Power Up easier at the beginning of the game and I'm curious if that's gonna bite me too soon (although I doubt it since I'm just now starting to throw together strategies for low-ish rank stage 4 haha) or if I should go even higher.

Shasta's lasers always do the same amount of damage afaik.

At least for Shasta and Lace, increasing the shot frequency doesn't do anything for the damage (for the lasers/lightning, at least) - what it does increase is how many chip points you receive. As far as I can tell, the shot frequency determines how often you receive the chip points from enemies. Particularly with Lace, you can see a big difference in how fast the score raises when shooting the first boss at #10 compared to #30.
