Can a PAL TurboGrafx work with an NTSC CD unit?

Post by kamiboy »

A while back I bought one of those NIB PAL Turbos you see for sale on eBay because I love to buy old systems new, I had PAL capable televisions and I didn't mind the 60->50hz slow down. Love the little thing by the way.

Today I am looking at a deal for buying a Turbo CD unit for around 125-150 and before I settle on it for good I got to thinking that since the PAL Turbo is a strange beast it might not work with the NTSC CD unit. Or at the very least I remember reading a casual forum comment stating flat out that it wont work.

So, does anyone know for sure?

This is not a a "for sure" comment but....

I can't see ANY logical reason why it won't work. There is no PAL region as such in the world of the PCE. NTSC HU-Cards work on it (albeit in 50hz mode), so it should have no issue at all with the NTSC TG CD unit.

Just gotta say though..... why you don't mind a game running NOT how it should is beyond me. lol The reason why these machines (NTSC converted to PAL) are still available in vast quantitys is because they are utter crap.

Ignorance is bliss mate. I grew up in PAL region and live now in NTSC and I wouldn't be able to feel a difference unless the two version were put next to one another. Having a new unit that only I get to manhandle is a greater joy than having games play 1/6th faster. Besides, for arcade shooters it takes the edge off.

Doing some deep going searches I found one forum post stating that it works but apparently games with CD audio will be out of sync, which is entirely logical.

I'll be needing to think this one over.
