I have a basically new CRT television...but it has this weird whistling noise coming out of the back of it. If you move around the cables that are hooked in to the back of it, sometimes it will stop. Like it's moving something inside the TV that's causing it. Of course, it never stops for good, and it is HIGHLY irritating.
Being a 32 inch television, I really don't look forward to dragging this thing to the repair shop(and finding a good repair shop around here is a whole other can of worms).
Any of you tech-heads have any idea what the problem is here? If I pull the cables out, it still whistles.
Does THIS sound like the solution?: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 418AAlZRvd

Re: Whistling television....HELP
What tv is it exactly?Someone might be able to recommend something particular off that... with tv's often there are pots that can be used to adjust feeds to various components that could cause whistling and prevent one from assuming the worst.Oh and super obvious and unlikely, but you haven't got anything around which maybe causing interference?
Unfortunately, your main suspect would typically be the flyback transformer dying... Which would be a bitch. But you'd perhaps want to rule out what it is not first though.
Please beware the transformer... if you're not technically inclined, perhaps best being safe and considering it broken.... Or at least prepared to do a lot of reading before opening/touching anything
If it is the transformer perhaps something like the following will [eventually] be of help:

Re: Whistling television....HELP
It will probably be resonance from the flyback and/or neck card.
Can be diagnosed and fixed but you need to know what you're doing.

Thanks for the advice. I am totally going to take this to a shop. I have no knowledge of fixing electronics at all.

Re: Whistling television....HELP
My tv had a high pitched whistle. Worked out that it was a loose cool, sparyed spray adhesivedown into to the back of it and problem solved. Have to respray once every so often, but no ill effects.
Re: Whistling television....HELP
I had a high pitched whine from a Pioneer RP HD set a while back. The culprit was a component on a board for the power supply. The very knowledgeable guy that fixed it couldn't figure out exactly which component was oscillating, so he ended up removing a bunch of components and re-soldering them to the board. Fortunately that fixed it, or he was going to have me send the board to him so he could completely rebuild it.

Re: Whistling television....HELP
I was lucky enough to find a TV repair man, in the area(you have no idea....), so I'll know in a couple of weeks. I really hope it's not a problem, because I want to add two more CRTs to my collection...so, I'll have enough of them, until I'm dead.
I don't want to have to get 3 more.
