Here's my quandary, I have an 360 Slim 250GB HDD and want to transfer all the content of that particular HDD to a bigger 360 Slim 320GB HDD. What's the proper way to go about doing this?
I've done such a content transfer of using an older 360 Elite 120GB HDD to the newer 360 Slim 250GB HDD setup which was a breeze to do (with an official 360 transfer cable dongle).
Edit: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/ ... sfer-cable
I just looked up that I'd need one of those official Microsoft transfer cable dongles to make such a 360S HDD transfer to a bigger 360S HDD deal.
Note: Starting in October 2011, the Xbox 360 Transfer Cable can be used to transfer content between any two Xbox 360 Hard Drives (Xbox 360 S Hard Drives or original Xbox 360 Hard Drives). (This applies to the newer 360 Slim 320GB HDD as well.)
I realize that I've got an older Xbox 360 transfer cable with just an USB port and not a 360S HDD interface port that was sold at retail in back in July of 2010. Which means I'll have to get a newer version that was sold at retail back in October of 2011. Go figure. Sure would've been nice if Microsoft had included such an 360S HDD interface port with the older 360 transfer cable dongle model they sold back in July of 2010. Oh well...is a learning experience in dealing with 360 Slim HDD upgrades and all.
Mods, this needs to be stickied for other 360 Slim users to learn about.

The cables Microsoft had been selling in 2010 were the same ones they've been selling since they introduced the Xbox 360 elite. I'm quite sure the console redesign wasn't on their minds then.

Re: Transfer content from a 360S 250GB HDD --> 360S 320GB HDD?
Went down to the local Gamestop to see if they had the newer 2011 360 Data Transfer Cables for sale. Got the response that they were out of stock. So it was decided to head on down to the local Best Buy Mobile store and see if they had it in stock. Finally found a few up for sale at the BBM store and was priced reasonably at $19.99 USD. Upon opening the box, the 2011 variant 360 Data Transfer Cable does, indeed, have the newer 360 Slim HDD interface port to do such a 1-to-1 transfer. Upon removing the 360 Slim 250GB HDD, it isn't your typical HDD unit nor does it use a standard SATA HDD anyways. Pretty slick way of Microsoft to enclose the newer & smaller HDD units inside the 360 Slim consoles though.
So it was a breeze to transfer the data from an older 360 Slim 250GB HDD to the bigger 360 Slim 320GB HDD without any problems. The only requirement is that the new 360 HDD has to be updated in order for a HDD data transfer to begin. With approxiamately 1,100 files to transfer, it certainly took quite a while to do so (around six to seven hours tops with the usual 480MB per second data rate transfer via USB 2.0 method). Noticed that some USA & JPN 360 game demos were weighing in at around 1GB-2GB (or even more than that easily). And the usual fully installed 360 games to the HDD ended up taking the most of the usual HDD space right there (still does require the need to have said 360 game disc to play such installed 360 games anyways). So it was actually 152GB used out of the older 250GB HDD for all 1,100 files before the transfer was initiated. Still plently of room/space on the newer 320GB HDD.
The older 250GB HDD has been reformatted as a new 360 Slim HDD and once booted up again for the first time on a 360 Slim, it'll be just like how it was from the factory.
