I love all these games, and suck at all of them, so I went by favorite BGM, since that is a huge appeal to me.

DOJ won out over DFKBL, just barely. DOJ's asthetics just please so much.

I may be in the minority here, but here's my preferences:

1. DFK BL
2. DonPachi
3. DOJ BL
4. DFK 1.5
5. Ketsui (hey, since it was in the poll...)
6. DoDonPachi
7. vanilla DOJ

I'm prepared to get ripped apart, but I like both versions of DFK more than the perenially popular vanilla DOJ and DDP because they have a lot more going on, so I still have fun without worrying about score. (I don't play for score in any DDP game besides DFK BL because I can't be assed to chain.) DOJ BL is there purely for 1-loop mode survival play, since I lack the skill to ever reach the second loop through normal play. DonPachi is just a blast.

Also, I find Ketsui a little bland. Not a bad game by any means, but I prefer the DonPachi series over it even if it's a better scoring game.

I've only played DP, DDP, and DOJ, and while they're all good games I'm not really interested in playing them seriously. DOJBL is probably my favorite.

The hypers add some much needed freedom to otherwise tight-as-fuck chaining.
Not to mention that it's challenging, has good visual design, music etc.

The art is incredible in it. As for the donpachi series as a whole, meh I can take it or leave it, it's a pity I can only vote once as 'ketsui is better than all of them' , I feel it's kinda like a pseudosequel with a more fun and forgiving scoring system anyway, the unused sound samples 'just another few shots' and erm.. the other one I can't remember affirm this for me.*

*I know it probably wasn't supposed to be.

Otherwise I'd choose DOJBL, but it is a horrible looking game and even though it's more fun than regular DOJ, chaining isn't fun in the slightest.

Short answer: chaining.

All of the top 4 are awesome games in my mind and the differences between those aren't big. Also DDP is underappreciated today with all the new fancy Pachis everywhere. It has mostly excellent stage design and I just like a scoring system that really makes you work for the gains. Pulling off succesful full chain in DDP is more satisfying than managing to get optimal hit counts and cancels in DFKBL.

I chose DOJ purely for aesthetic purposes. The announcer in DonPachi and DDP's soundtrack drive me up the freaking wall. Nothing actually pisses me off in DOJ, which makes it the winner. I've played DDP the most and that's the one I'm best at, but just can't take the music anymore. I'm lousy at chaining enemies (though recently I've started to make efforts), so scoring doesn't really figure in for me.

I'd personally rank DDP & DOJ's pixel art up with the YGW Raizing games, though they have very different looks. Equally successful in their various endeavors, IMO.

I've never played DOJ and feel my vote would be uninformed. Getting Slowpoke MAME right now just to try it out.

That makes a lot of sense. The one thing I never get from DFKBL is that"Holy shit, I actually pulled that off" feeling, which is whats so great about the DDP series imo. Lots and lots of failure, followed by finally full-chainnig a stage, is quite a good feeling. DFKBL is more forgiving, where you may miss the opportunity to add more to your counter, its not as ALL OR NOTHING as DDP

I just wish the music in DDP didn't repeat half way through. I know it has nothing to do with the structure/scoring of the game, but it always disappointed me, since those first 3 songs are pretty nice.
