WiiU?In Famitsu Xbox 360 this month, Cave development head Makoto Asada revealed that he's currently planning a huge shooting game. He didn't provide details to the magazine, but this isn't too surprising as he also said that hardly anyone at Cave knows about the project.
Asada's comments about the game came as he spoke about how the meaning of focusing on a particular platform has lost its meaning. He believes that Cave will in general release games wherever the most users are.
All this is relevant to Asada's mystery project because it seems that it is not coming to Xbox 360. Asada apologized to Xbox 360 users if this ends up being the case.

Anything but some lame ps3 exclusive please.

I'm probably one of the few people on here with access to a PS3 and arcade stick for it, but I'll agree that some PS3 exclusive would certainly be less than optimal for a lot of people on this forum.

I think I'd like to see them go down the PSN/XBLA/VC route with this one and just promote it properly. The file sizes easily allow for a decent size game to be released so why not please all camps by just going digital and selling it for £10?

I hope it's a crossover game or Muchi Muchi Pork XXX.
Or that one SkyKid mentioned with the pumpkin sodomy and Ikeda shooting blood out of his nose.

Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.
Re: Next Shooter by Cave in development
Almost certainly, unless Microsoft surprise everyone come E3. I don't think it matters what platform they release it on, they're never going to see more than 50K sales domestically IMO, which is about the most they've ever sold on a home console in their own region.Teufel_in_Blau wrote:WiiU?

i hope not. after not playing much of anything on my wii, i'm really not planning on buying wiiu. cave shmups will obviously fuck up that plan, though.bcass wrote:Almost certainlyTeufel_in_Blau wrote:WiiU?
Re: Next Shooter by Cave in development
I can't see them waiting around for at least 12 months before any other home console appears. IMO we'll have a lot longer than that to wait for next 360, even longer for the PS4.
Re: Next Shooter by Cave in development
I remembered that Asada went on a business trip to Kyoto way back in June 2011.

Kyoto is where Nintendo headquarters is located.

Well, this article didn't give us a lot of information to go on, but at least it confirms that they are still making shooting games for the time being =).

If they want to get to the most posible customers, they should release their games on steam

While I like the convenience and would still buy whatever they release, the collector side of me disapproves.Hibachi wrote:I think I'd like to see them go down the PSN/XBLA/VC route with this one and just promote it properly. Re: Next Shooter by Cave in development
Why cant we have both? Im sure there are more than enough game collectors out there who would buy lowkey releases of CAVE#s games. (although region locking fucks it up for everything execpt the ps3 and PC)

Re: Next Shooter by Cave in development
Yeah, but why region lock it when you are selling the games as DLC for much cheaper? The physical releases would only be for people who must actually own the game and are ok with paying $60-$80 more for it. More of a collectors item than an actual release.
It being RF would not impede on their sales I'd think.

Re: Next Shooter by Cave in development
This is probably the Vita game we've already known about. They said that would be an original shmup.
Anyway, I was going to buy a new system soon (PS3 or Vita), so I guess this will determine my decision.

Re: Next Shooter by Cave in development
To satisfy collectors, they could do what Capcom did for the PSN release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2; print up a box with artwork but a download code inside instead of a disc
I generally prefer physical to digital as well but it seems like disc releases are bogging down wider international releases, not to mention import sites charge way too much. If it's on PSN, it will automatically be available to everyone in the world the same day it goes up in Japan, so that's a plus.
Why would they print the first information about the game in a 360 mag if it's not coming out for 360?

Sure, downloadable games are cheaper and easier to localize. But the ones that don't make it are still locked behind foreign credit card requirements, region-specific points or cash, and in the case of the 360 and Wii, region locking.Zorator wrote:I generally prefer physical to digital as well but it seems like disc releases are bogging down wider international releases, not to mention import sites charge way too much. It's already the case with the Vita that you're completely barred from buying PSN games and DLC from other regions unless you deactivate all your previous digital purchases and attach a different account to your system. Thankfully, this doesn't apply to retail games...
Nothing else to print? The Japanese 360 has one foot in the grave.Zorator wrote:Why would they print the first information about the game in a 360 mag if it's not coming out for 360?

Official Playstation Magazine used to have a couple short reviews of Xbox games every issue, you know!

Re: Next Shooter by Cave in development
Didn't Deathsmiles 2 do poorly in digital form? I doubt that is what they have planned.
RSG digital is probably looking at older titles that companies aren't willing to cash in on.

Cave said they were "pleased" with sales of the American GoD release. It definitely did better than expected.MauJustice wrote:Didn't Deathsmiles 2 do poorly in digital form? I doubt that is what they have planned.
Re: Next Shooter by Cave in development
DS IIX is a poor example anyway as it was locked to NTSC regions.
Re: Next Shooter by Cave in development
I did not know that, I got OPM when I was a kid but stopped getting it around the time of the Xbox because they stopped including demo discs every month. When the first Xbox launched, I got a few issues of the official Xbox mag for free and whenever they reviewed cross platform games they would mention it being on other systems, but that you should get still get the Xbox version instead. No details or even specification that the reviewer played other versions, just get Xbox version instead.Estebang wrote:Official Playstation Magazine used to have a couple short reviews of Xbox games every issue, you know!
I didn't know the Vita has region locking for digital games. That's pretty lame considering PS3 and PSP don't. Japanese and Asian points cards are really easy to get on eBay, so if it did come out on PS3 it would still be quite easy for anyone to get it. Something tells me this isn't going come out on PS3 though, or if it does it won't be exclusive.
Re: Next Shooter by Cave in development
It doesn't apply to the games themselves, just the store.Zorator wrote:I didn't know the Vita has region locking for digital games.

Yeah what's with them not releasing that in pal.....bcass wrote:DS IIX is a poor example anyway as it was locked to NTSC regions.
