Need info on how to hack a PSP

Post by evil_ash_xero »

I have a PSP 2001. I went ahead and bought Valkyria Chronicles III, for it, since some people are working on a patch. Problem is, I have NO idea how I would even go about patching a game, or playing it, or anything...on a PSP.

What do I need to do? Do I need a Pandora battery?

And so I don't get in trouble...I am only doing this to play a English patched version of a game I OWN.

I hacked my brother's PSP (to play Progear) but it was a 1001. All I had to do was load a certain .jpg over and over again until it installed the CFW. Really strange hack, but it worked great! DoDonPachi in TATE on the PSP was pretty cool...

1001 after a certain firmware and later models (like your 2001) I believe do need the Pandora battery in order to install CFW. A little google fu should get you to where you need to go

You will need a hacked battery, I got mine from dealextreme

I don't know how to patch PSP images myself though. Since you supposedly own the game legitimately, why not download a copy of the image file that's been pre-patched? As soon as the patch is done a download is bound to pop up. Why go though the trouble of downloading the game and then patching it? Isn't downloading a pre-patched version just as illegal as downloading the clean one you would need if you were to patch it yourself?

You guys sure you still need hacked batteries..... the PSP GO was hacked ages ago to play anything and that's a piss easy process via CFW.

I thought it was more about the FW than the HW version nowadays, especially since the prometheus hack.

Have a look here http://code.google.com/p/procfw/wiki/Installation I don't think Pandora battery is needed as long as your PSP isn't on the very latest Sony f/w.

Thanks for the info...

I'll look into it soon.

I do have a 2000 with the latest firmware though.

Don't buy anything. Pandora battery has been obsolete for the past 2 years outside of system recovery purposes.

Latest firmware (6.60) is fine. You may need to google and determine which PSP-2000 model you have (early or late) since there are limitations to the latter model and everything afterward.

Once you've read everything, just download 6.60 PRO and follow the directions to copy files and run the installer. Now you have CFW.

Download the game patch and follow its instructions. It'll be straightforward but will likely require grey area means of acquiring the image and any more detail would be skirting the rules here.

One last question.

I got this thing working, and I can run games off of it.

However, I only have a 2GB card. Up to what GB will a Sony PSP 2000 work with? I have it updated to 6.60.

16 gigabytes is the max. They're pretty cheap on Amazon.
Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.

I completely forgot about those multiple-insert adapters.

Personally, with my entire PSN download catalog, 16GB is more than enough.
