Re: On Resident Evil and Nazi Eugenics
So this concept would even apply to the live-action film series & the CG Resident Evil film, Degeneration, as well?
I'd just take them at face value for what they really are, zombie/horror genre films, with a nod towards the games that came before them.
The upcoming Resident Evil: Retribution 3D film out this winter 2012 looks interesting (a follow-up to the earlier RE: Afterlife 3D flick).
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

Haha, I don't think I'm ever gonna try to figure those outPC Engine Fan X! wrote:So this concept would even apply to the live-action film series & the CG Resident Evil film, Degeneration, as well?

In the meantime, here's an interesting article on the history of Eugenics in America I found while reading up on the subject. It's disgusting to me that such a large portion of the country actually supported the idea of local gas chambers at one point, to sterilize the land of those who weren't uniform to someone's ideal. And then of course, this led in part to WWII. Our species is so embarrassing sometimes.

Of course RE is a racist series. Just look at RE5.circuitface wrote:Haha, I don't think I'm ever gonna try to figure those out :lol:PC Engine Fan X! wrote:So this concept would even apply to the live-action film series & the CG Resident Evil film, Degeneration, as well?

The guy who made the games probably had some idea that he might make some people realize that it's retarded, but he's probably just making kids want to shoot shit in the face and stuff.
Re: On Resident Evil and Nazi Eugenics
Just to be clear, I am def not saying RE is a racist series, which is an old and tired notion. What I am saying is that the villains have undeniable similarities with real world racial supremacists. It's permissible, because they are villains after all.TLB wrote:Of course RE is a racist series. Just look at RE5.
If you ask me, it would have been more racist of 5 to not include black zombies since it takes place in Africa. That whole thing reminds me of a recent thread.

I'm saying that the parallels are probably intentional. It's supposed to be "subtle", and it may have been, until RE5. Until RE5 you mostly just killed poor people and animals. They went full-on conspicuous when all you were killing were poor black people.circuitface wrote:Just to be clear, I am def not saying RE is a racist series, which is an old and tired notion. You mean "didn't conform to". While it's nice that thanks to a Japanese video game series you have taken an interest in history and are beginning to understand the world, maybe you shouldn't just post the very first things that come to mind in a public forum.circuitface wrote:those who weren't uniform to someone's ideal.
Honestly, what are you trying to tell us? That Resident Evil's multiple writers were in part inspired by real world events instead of aliens beaming the thoughts directly into their heads? Shocking, I know.
Re: On Resident Evil and Nazi Eugenics
Well, you still kill animals and a few white peeps in 5. It's also of note that the first three games were dedicated to you mostly killing white people and animals. After that, Hispanics and animals, on to 5, and now with 6 I understand we'll be blasting a few Asians. It's seems fairly indiscriminate in it's murder simulating if you ask me
I'm really not looking forward to the return of regular zombies
It's much more interesting when they can be tactical and their heads explode into a flurry of blades and guts sometimes.

I'm interested in it? Just read a different thread man.Friendly wrote:You mean "didn't conform to". It's pretty rad how poor people don't understand how people who consider themselves superior see them. Look at the "Republican party" in the US, lol. Quite the party. Everyone rockin' out with their money out. This isn't a debate between US political parties, btw, before anyone starts with that. Both major parties are equally distracting from the important issues: money and resources. It's just silly how many times people can see something and ignore it.TLB wrote:I'm saying that the parallels are probably intentional. It's supposed to be "subtle", and it may have been, until RE5. Re: On Resident Evil and Nazi Eugenics
Agreed. It's like a popularity contest designed to keep people looking in the wrong direction... and it's horribly effective.TLB wrote:Both major parties are equally distracting from the important issues: money and resources.
