By any chance does those Saturn leads work using the XRGB-3 also? I'm pretty sure the answer is "yes" to that one but, never can be too careful.

Question about the XRGB-2+ and Sega Saturn RGBS VGA cables.
Is it feasible to get 15 kHZ Saturn leads working on the XRGB-2+? I'm asking for my friends benefit because he bought one recently and the only thing it appears to work on is his EGA/CGA/YUV-to-VGA adapter.
By any chance does those Saturn leads work using the XRGB-3 also? I'm pretty sure the answer is "yes" to that one but, never can be too careful.

It's just a matter of the connection. On the GBS8220 and on the XRGB you can directly use RGBs cables with a VGA connector. On the XRGB-2+ you have to use an adapter from VGA to Scart - the signal is right, it's just the connector that doesn't fit.

Smart answers as usual Fudoh.
But what about the XRGB-3, could it take a Saturn VGA cable like say... this?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/160700710264?_t ... 97.c0.m619
Are the results any better than direct sync using an RGB SCART lead?

Yes, works on the back RGBs input. And yes, quality is the same.

Re: Question about the XRGB-2+ and Sega Saturn RGBS VGA cables.
Is this friend of yours the guy you mentioned in Brazil?
There's something up with Brazilian Saturns. The output isn't the same as a North American Saturn, I'm not entirely sure what it outputs because I don't have one, either way I've had issues reported with them before.
Edit: If it's working on RGBS to VGA board and not an XRGB, could be that it needs sync buffering with an extra circuit, the RGBS to VGA board seems super, super tolerant of non buffered sync and XRGB units not so much, although I get no problem with a North American Saturn direct to XRGB Mini. So if you/he can PM me exactly what type of Saturn is being used maybe I can help out.
Short story though, it's not liking his Saturn output and I've never had an issue reported with Saturn output before for XRGB. Mind you I get no issue with the SNES units I have either, the only thing that never worked without extra circuitry was the 32X with a c-sync based SCART. So I'm quite grateful this was brought to light as it gave me a basis for fixing it.

Which makes me wonder what the minimum number of connections that need to be made when connecting a 32X to a Genesis2. The MDIN9 to MDIN9 cable has pins for all but +5VDC, and I'm curious to know (I can check later) if all that is needed is RGBS - assuming audio is tapped from the genesis MDIN9 or the 2 RCAs on a Sega CD?...32X with a c-sync based SCART. So I'm quite grateful this was brought to light as it gave me a basis for fixing it.

I believe you've got me confused with someone else. My friend lives in Philadelphia. Although you might know him by now, both me and him have ordered mountains upon mountains of things from you. We're like the only two people who use RGB stuff, who's from Philly!Retro Access wrote:Is this friend of yours the guy you mentioned in Brazil?
Now watch 'cause I said that someone else from Philly is gonna come in here with the "Me too!" speech.
I'll keep that in mind, thank you. My friend confirms it can't work on the XRGB-2 Plus, as made evident by Fudoh. I am willing to try it on my XRGB-3 but being I've moved. It's gonna take a while to unpack and set-up the new furniture. But once that's done I'll invite him over and try your SAT VGA lead on my XRGB unit. I already have your raw sync cables for Saturn but am still curious about the quality of this VGA lead. Even though I'm told they're both the same, and they probably are. I just find experiments like this fun.Retro Access wrote:Edit: If it's working on RGBS to VGA board and not an XRGB, could be that it needs sync buffering with an extra circuit, the RGBS to VGA board seems super, super tolerant of non buffered sync and XRGB units not so much, although I get no problem with a North American Saturn direct to XRGB Mini. And speaking of the 32X, check your PM.

Sorry I've had flu all week and got emails flying at me from ebay, personal account, this board, Something Awful and my website, I am getting people confused.Rock Man wrote:I believe you've got me confused with someone else. re. 32X cable connector, really it shouldn't need the composite connecting. At least in theory, I do actually connect it, some variation out there could need it for some reason. I had it connected in a sega cable I had in UK so based the cables off that.
In unrelated news my RGBS to VGA board has died. I think it saw the Mini and committed suicide. I tested a sync stripper on it today and thought I'd messed up, the colours were all out but it's not a bad wiring job after all, it's the board. Oh well, it still works for testing things on.

Been feeling a bit under the weather myself, caught a nasty cold the other day but I'm over it. Sorry to hear about your RGB/EGA/CGA/YUV-to-VGA converter, that sucks. Good thing there are plenty of them on Ebay and ArcadeForge at affordable prices no doubt.
One thing though, I was confused when you explained about the 32X composite connecting... essentially, I was asking about those pure sync leads you made that circumvent jailbars on the model 1 Genny combined with the 32X. You said you resolved the issue right? You tested it on your XRGB-Mini (Frame Meister) remember?

I was talking to the guy who asked about the minimum connections between 32X and genesis.
