Anyone have experience with MAME?
Anyone have experience with MAME?
I've been trying to get DoDonPachi International, Mushihimesama, and Battle Garegga to work on MAME. BG doesn't even show up in the ROMS list, MHS says it's not working with MAME, and DoDonPachi says it is missing a ROM required to work or something.

Get an up-to-date ROMset.
Also, you might consider getting a frontend version of MAME, like MAMEUI or Mame Plus (apparently some people are still releasing MAME Plus), and there's also Nimitz's Shmupmame (lag-reduced) to consider.

Re: Anyone have experience with MAME?
Mushihimesama (and all of the newer Cave games, Ibara/Kuro, Futari, Espgaluda II, Sweets, Pork) have been removed from MAME from version 144 and up.
DDP I think you need the parent set in order to use the International version. A lot of times the ROM sets are split in order to avoid duplication of files - the difference between the Japanese and International versions may only be one or two ROMs, so the Intl. version will load the ones it needs from the parent set (J version) instead.
Battle Garegga could be named incorrectly or something, not sure. It can be extremely annoying getting games to work/run if you're not dealing with a proper set of ROMs. You need to learn how to use clrmamepro to check and fix your ROMs so MAME will recognize them correctly.

Re: Anyone have experience with MAME?
Extra credit project: recover MAME 0.143u9 sources (0.143 archive and 9 patches) and compile the last official version that has the "newer" CAVE games. (Getting the roms is trivial.)
It's more fun, and more dependable, than looking for up to date naughty MAME variants that keep the removed games and try to follow newer releases.

related question: have the (later removed) Cave rom sets changed between their initial release (in 143?) and 143u9 ?

Re: Anyone have experience with MAME?
A quick question that may apply here, as I don't want to start another thread.
I am using MAME32 v9.0 (Hopefully this is a good mame?), and I am trying to find a DDPII rom, but I have had no luck getting one that passes audit.
Also, is there any version of MAME that can run Hacha Mecha Fighter? With this, the rom will pass audit, but it just doesn't work, I'm guessing because this version of mame cant run it. Same thing happened with Viper Phase 1 and Boogie Wings.
Thanks!

Ah gotcha, so its just not emulated that well all around. Thats too bad, but thanks for settling it for me!Chirpy13 wrote:Don't bother with DDP2, it's buggy as hell. Re: Anyone have experience with MAME?
My question is whether those ROMsets were removed from the ROMset in MAME after that point - if that's the case I will have to find them all and pull them out of mine (if I was lucky enough to get them) before I consider updating my set.Fudoh wrote:related question: have the (later removed) Cave rom sets changed between their initial release (in 143?) and 143u9 ?
Re: Anyone have experience with MAME?
they're all included in the rollback sets which are available online. I just noticed that there're different versions for some (e.g. Deathsmiles) for 143 straight and for 143u9, that's why I was asking. I'll fool around with those tomorrow and see which ones are best. (And yes, both the driver support and the roms have been pulled from all official versions starting with 144).

Re: Anyone have experience with MAME?
I suspect more variants were found/added throughout 143, so 143u9 will be the most complete. I think there are 87 different versions of Futari.
Re: Anyone have experience with MAME?
Wait...theres a version of MAME that runs Futari?

Few months late to the party. Cave sh3 supports since been removed from mame due to caves cease and desist.tommyb wrote:Wait...theres a version of MAME that runs Futari?

No chance, buddy. There was a guy making a native Xcode MAME for Mac OS X (has a thread for it in Off-Topic) but yet again he's gone and wiped all the info including the download links for it. Apparently it's unstable but I never noticed anything.finisherr wrote:Does anyone know if slowpoke builds of 143u9 exist for Mac?

well i did.Drum wrote:Everything. Seriously. Download the biggest rom torrent you can find, you won't regret it.Axmann wrote:Any must-haves you'd recommend?
consider me dense but i have now 28 gigs of space wasted with mostly not working games. i downloaded a torrent with a "u143" romset and a lot of them aren't working and are also listed as "non-working" so why bother adding them at all ? giga wing 2 being one example.
[edit]
actually to ramble a bit more: it really pisses me off just how many different versions of mame, fbanext and frontends there are. which also results in not having any extensive testing results, just dozens of posts on forums about how this-and-that-version is the best. i'm really not that technically inept to blame myself for not figuring stuff out.
i mean right now i have like shmupmame 2, shmupmame 3 (which doesn't work on windows 7 for me) for old games for my lcd, slowpoke and caveui for sh2 games (i have still no idea which one is better or what the differences are), groovymame to play on a crt and fbanext which has a nice frontend but i don't know what the differences between the two are.
Re: Anyone have experience with MAME?
It pisses you off having to learn how to play thousands of games for free even though you're not even legally entitled to do so?

Re: Anyone have experience with MAME?
I stopped using mame after I got bored of the... lets say 20 games that came with it. eventually, I could get it again, but after seeing this thread and how many different versions there are, I'm not so sure...
